Sports fans have voted Liverpool the UK’s Greatest Sporting City in a recent survey by ESPN, and the city is leading the way for sport.
Over the next seven months Echo Arena Liverpool will welcome a variety of sporting events to the city, and there is something for every sports fan to enjoy. From celebrating the best in sport at the BBC Sports Personality of The Year, to boxing and entertainment with show jumping, don’t miss out on the action.
Cage Warriors Academy
After the enormous success of the first Cage Warriors Academy North West show, the event returns on 2 September at The Auditorium at Echo Arena Liverpool, showcasing the very best local and UK amateur and professional talent. An exciting card is promised again including three amateur titles, and after huge demand Beau Gavin and Scott Pedersen will rematch for the Amateur Lightweight title again, their first match being one of the best fights seen anywhere in the UK.
Bare Knuckle Boxing
BKB™ makes its debut at The Auditorium at Echo Arena Liverpool on 9 September. The only licensed Bare Knuckle Boxing Company in the world, BKB™ brings excitement, power and knock out sporting entertainment to Liverpool.
World Boxing Super Series
The battle for the inaugural 168lbs Muhammad Ali Trophy begins on Saturday 16 September with the first of the World Boxing Super Series’ hugely anticipated super middleweight match ups. British betting favourite and number two seed Callum Smith will meet undefeated Swedish star Erik Skoglund in a quarter-final bout at Echo Arena Liverpool. David Price will make his return to the ring, with Adam Little taking on Darren Surtees over eight rounds on the undercard. There will be action for the duo of Lloyd Campbell and Luke Willis, and Luke Blackledge meets the undefeated Zach Parker in a British super-middleweight title eliminator.
Trampoline, Tumbling & DMT British Championships
Prepare to be wowed as gymnasts soar 20ft in the air, perform gravity-defying somersaults and twists in the spectacular individual trampoline championships on 23-24 September. Watch as rivals thunder down the sprung runway at mind-blowing speed, twisting and somersaulting all the way in the tumbling competitions. And don’t miss the explosive double-mini trampoline competitions where gymnasts hurtle down the track, launching into two huge aerial tricks before coming back down to earth in style!
Battle on the Mersey
Paul Butler will face bitter rival Stuart Hall in an eliminator for the WBA World Bantamweight title at Echo Arena Liverpool on Saturday 30 September. A stacked bill in support of the main event sees Liverpool’s Rocky Fielding defend his British Super-Middleweight title for the first time against Scotsman David Brophy. Controversial Hackney man Ohara Davies looks to get back to winning ways as he challenges Tom Farrell for the unbeaten local favourite’s WBA International Super-Lightweight belt. Birkenhead’s Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd defends his Commonwealth and WBC International Lightweight titles against former Team GB captain and Liverpudlian Tom Stalker. Two more Team GB Olympians Anthony Fowler and Natasha Jonas fight on home turf for the first time in their second fights in the paid ranks, and there’s also action for Craig Glover.
Cage Warriors 88
Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett is back! Cage Warriors returns to Liverpool on Saturday 28 October with Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett, lightweight champion Chris Fishgold and fellow Liverpudlian Molly McCann all competing.
BBC Sports Personality of The Year
Echo Arena Liverpool will host the biggest awards night in the sporting calendar, BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017, on Sunday 17 December. Presenters Gary Lineker, Clare Balding and Gabby Logan will be back in the city to present and celebrate the best sporting achievements from the past year in front of an audience of nearly 11,000, while broadcasting live to millions on BBC One.
Liverpool International Horse Show
The Liverpool International Horse Show is back for a third year running from 29-31 December.This year’s show brings you leaping bikes with Free Style Motorcross, racing Shetland Ponies, pyrotechnics and excitement with New Year’s Eve specials from Luminoso – the dare devil stunt display with horses and fire. New for 2017 is live music from Rick Parfitt Jnr (son of Status Quo’s legendary singer & guitarist Rick Parfitt) and the RPJ band which is comprised of some of the finest session musicians in the country. They are famed for being the best party rock band in the UK, and will be performing every session with a very special party set to bring in the New Year!
5 Star Wrestling: 2018
128 of the world’s top wrestlers are expected to battle it out across the gigantic 30 week contest. 5 Star champion John Morrison aims to prove that he truly is the most dominant champion on the planet, on 1 February 2018.
