Get up the loft – Memorabilia Day returns to the Beatles Story
6 years ago

Memorabilia Day returns to Liverpool on Wednesday 25th October 2017, giving members of the public, fans and collectors the opportunity to have their Beatles and Mersey Beat memorabilia appraised for FREE by the experts at Julien’s Auctions.
The Beatles Story, Liverpool and Julien’s Auctions, L.A recently teamed up to take the event to London’s Hard Rock Cafe, which saw a stream of visitors attend with many exciting artefacts to be valued. Perhaps top of the heap was original Quarrymen member Rod Davis’ banjo, which was valued on the day at around £10,000.
Internationally renowned Julien’s Auctions has broken world records with the sale of Beatles memorabilia including John Lennon’s acoustic guitar which sold recently for a record $2.4 million, Ringo Starr’s Ludwig drum kit which sold for a record $2.2 million, and much, much more.
At last year’s Liverpool event, a letter written by John Lennon addressed to The Queen was uncovered which explained the singer’s reasons for returning his MBE. John’s signature was verified as authentic on the day and the item valued by Julien’s Auctions at around £60,000.
The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, discovered the letter tucked away inside the sleeve of a record that was part of a collection of 45s he picked up for £10 at a car boot sale 20 years ago, and had presumed it must have been a copy. The item is currently on loan to The Beatles Story and is displayed within the solo area of the main exhibition.
Members of the public are being encouraged to search their homes for any hidden treasures, which could be worth thousands, and bring them along to the event, where Julien’s Auctions’ expert auctioneers and curators will be on hand to offer instant valuations.
Martin King of The Beatles Story said: “Our two previous events have been a huge success, but we are sure that there are many more fascinating artefacts still waiting to be discovered. We would like to encourage the public to search their attics to unearth those hidden gems and bring them along to this Memorabilia Day. It is a fantastic opportunity for people to have their items valued by some of the world’s most well respected experts in celebrity memorabilia.”
Darren Julien, Founder & CEO of Julien’s Auctions, stated: “We are thrilled to partner once again with The Beatles Story on a third instalment of Memorabilia Day, we can’t wait to discover what we are sure will be some fascinating historical finds.”
