Get your steps in for Wirral Walking Festival 2025 starting this weekend
3 hours ago

There’s no excuse for not getting your steps in this month as Wirral Walking Festival takes place with loads of strolls and hikes across the region.
From history tours to art in nature adventures and tidal treks – and even silent discos – there’s plenty of events to make sure everyone can get into action.
The festival runs from tomorrow, May 3, to May 31, and is co-ordinated by the Active Wirral team to highlight the range of walks that take place all over the peninsula.
Fiona Hanik, who’s Wirral Wellbeing Walks co-ordinator as well as the festival co-ordinator, says:
“Walking’s never been so important in people’s lives, and we have so many wonderful places to walk.
“Getting out locally is an excellent way to stay fit and healthy and helps with everyone’s mental health.”
She adds: “Walking is accessible, it’s an excellent way to meet new people, make friends and enjoy all the wonderful places Wirral has to offer.”
Most events are free, but there are some which need a paid ticket or donation. And while with most of the walks you need to book, there are others where you can just turn up on the day.
This year’s Walking Festival begins with the Oxton History Walk. Starting at 11am tomorrow, it’s a two-hour circular walk finding out the history of the village, and people who lived there. It covers two miles and, as the first event, it is free – but you do need to book!
Other highlights throughout the festival include:
Saturday, May 10 – Heswall Dales & Woodland Dungeon
On this one you can join the rangers for a walk that takes in the Dungeon Woodland, Heswall Dales, the Dee Estuary shoreline and the dramatic cliffs at Thurstaston – but be warned this is one which includes steep hills, steps and uneven paths so it’s one to get those proper walking shoes out for!
Monday, May 19 – Port Sunlight Historical Wellbeing Walk
This 90-minute guided gentle walk takes you on a tour of Port Sunlight to discover more about its history, its architecture, and village life past and present, and
Friday, May 23 – Silent Disco Walk at West Kirby
One of two silent disco walks – the other is on Monday, May 19 at New Brighton – so you can get pounding the pavements while listening to your favourite tunes.
