Girls Run The Streets: New free running group empowers women and girls in Wirral
34 minutes ago

Women and girls across Wirral are being invited to take part in a new free running initiative designed to boost confidence, fitness, and community support.
Girls Run The Streets is a new initiative offering free weekly group running sessions for women and girls aged 14+.
The first run is set to take place on Wednesday 12 March, starting from Bidston Sports and Activity Centre at 7.00pm, and will take place weekly.
Run by Wirral Council’s Active Wirral leisure service, the programme is then set to expand to running routes across the borough, inviting all women and girls aged 14+ to help create a movement based on confidence, self-esteem and lifting each other up.
Cllr Ann Ainsworth, Vice-Chair of Tourism, Communities, Culture and Leisure Committee, said:
“Girls Run The Streets is about women supporting women. We know some women feel nervous of running alone at night.
“By running together, Girls Run The Streets will create a space where women and girls feel they can push themselves to their limits, with the help and guidance of their fellow runners.”

The sessions are open to all women, regardless of fitness level or previous running experience.
Cllr Ainsworth added:
“These sessions will allow everyone from beginners to experienced runners to come together and run confidently, keep active and improve their fitness. And, as they’ll be a visible presence across our communities, hopefully they will motivate others to do the same and join the movement.”
Runs will be led by ‘Run Leaders’, who are trained to run the sessions safely and inclusive of all participants.
The programme begins on Wednesday 12 March starting from Bidston Sports and Activity Centre at 7pm every week. Sessions last one hour, with running distance varying based on ability level, and are completely free to join. Booking is essential.
