Calling all Scousers, near and far! The 5th annual Global Scouse Day is ON!
Whether you’re a chef, a business owner or simply just a lover of our city’s favourite dish, here’s all the Who, What, Where, When and Why info you need to get involved with Global Scouse Day 2017, it’s going to be awesome!
On Tuesday 28th February the city, the country and the universe will be celebrating our Ma’s best loved dish and on top of that here at The Guide Liverpool we will be dedicating our entire days output to the good stuff, of course we are talking SCOUSE!
Follow us for live updates all day long on our Twitter page here, or on Facebook here.
So What’s Going On?
Global Scouse Day is a not-for-profit, community-driven project that aims to bring people together from around the world to celebrate Liverpool culture by making, eating and sharing a bowl of scouse. It doesn’t matter whether you go out to eat, get everyone round to yours, or make just enough for one, its all about eating scouse and being proud!
Why Get Involved?
This year Global Scouse Day has partnered with the Woodlands Hospice Charitable Trust, an organisation that is committed to delivering specialist palliative care to those with cancer and other life limiting illnesses.
Some Global Scouse Day participants, whether it be canteens, pubs, cafes or restaurants, have pledged to donate a percentage of their Scouse sales on the day to Woodlands Hospice and so once again our city has the chance to come together to support those in need.
For more info head to the Woodlands Hospice website here.
When is it Happening?
Global Scouse Day 2017 takes place on Tuesday 28th February (which also happens to be Pancake Day) so that’s your two course dinner sorted! Some participating outlets are putting scouse on their menu for the entire week, so if you can’t get out on Tuesday for a bowl, scroll down to find out where your nearest outlet is and check availability. Scouse tastes good every day of the week anyway.
Where Can You Get Involved?
While Liverpool is the focus of Global Scouse Day 2017, the aim to get as many scousers living in other cities and countries, around the world to stick a pan of scouse on and invite people to sample our traditional, warming, signature dish. Alternatively, if you’re living in a climate where the essential scouse ingredients aren’t available, why not make up a new recipe?
Tweet us your around the world scouse pics to @TheGuideLpool and don’t forget the official hashtag #GlobalScouseDay
Who’s Serving Up on the Big Day?
There are bucket loads of Liverpool eateries taking part in Global Scouse Day 2017, some sticking to traditional recipes, cooking up beef and potatoes and some mixing it up with their own contemporary twist including Mexican, Japanese and veggie varieties on offer. Check out the cheesy scouse fries from Slims Pork Chop Express above! Now that’s definitely new. The Old Stables are the latest restaurant to sign up to the challenge, giving fans the opportunity to enjoy a big bowl of warming scouse in the tree-lined tranquillity of Allerton Manor.
