Grand National: The World is Watching as The Randox Health Grand National Saturday gets underway
5 years ago

It’s a very good morning from Jay at Aintree Racecourse as Grand National Saturday gets underway.
Gates are already open and the racecourse is busy with those keen to soak up the atmosphere and the sun on the final day of the festival. Racing begins at 1:45pm with the biggie, the Grand National itself at 5:15pm and the last race of the day at 6:20pm.
Who better to kick start our coverage of The Randox Health Grand National Saturday than North West Regional Director of Racing at The Jockey Club, Dickon White. Chatting with our Jay at the parade ring, Dickon gave us an insight into the huge operation that goes on behind the scenes at Aintree.
The crowds on the first two days of the 2019 Randox Health Grand National Festival have been very similar to those of 12 months’ ago. Grand National Thursday saw a crowd of 33,020 in attendance while Ladies Day saw 49,602 in attendance, just below the 50,000 sell-out crowd seen in 2018.
Dickon concluded:” Our pre-sales were at the same level as in 2018, so our crowds have held up very well indeed given the weather over the past two days. We saw the second highest-ever attendance on Ladies Day and our attention now turns to Grand National Day, where we’re expecting a sell-out crowd of 70,000 to Aintree Racecourse.”
