Halloween hunts, collage workshops, dock tours and more at Liverpool’s museums this half-term

This half-term the team at National Museums Liverpool are hosting plenty of fun for your kids including a collage workshop inspired by the Linda McCartney exhibition, a tour of the world’s first commercial enclosed wet dock and a Halloween hunt with a chance to win Where’s Wally? goodies.

Local Liverpool artist, Catherine Rogers will celebrate all things cut and paste in a digital Zoom collage workshop (28 October). These workshops are in collaboration with the Walker Art Gallery, in response to the Linda McCartney Retrospective exhibition. Inspired by Linda’s love of animals and her vegetarian lifestyle, Catherine will guide people through simple yet effective collage exercises to help create a piece of artwork to be proud of. This is a workshop that is not to be missed and fun for the whole family.

Join the Where’s Wally? Spooky Museum Search! down at the Museum of Liverpool, before 1 November. Museum of Liverpool is working with Kids in Museums to encourage families to safely go out over the half term to join the spooky search. Find Wally hidden around the museum and spell out a spooky phrase to receive a special “I found Wally!” bookmark. Families will also have the chance to enter a competition to win an ArtFund Family Membership and a bundle of Where’s Wally? goodies.

The Old Dock tours are back at the Merseyside Maritime Museum. With additional safety measures to keep visitors safe, household or support bubbles can now book on this guided tour and discover the origin of Liverpool’s fortune which lies buried underneath Liverpool ONE. Revealed during excavations in 2001, the story of the world’s first commercial enclosed wet dock is explored. Discover how a brave idea and an innovative feat of engineering shaped Liverpool’s destiny forever.

Over in the leafy suburb of Mossley Hill hides Sudley House, a Victorian merchant’s house with period furniture and beautiful paintings. Join in with their spooky craft session on 30 October and decorate your own creepy Halloween paper pumpkin and create a spooky selfie prop to scare your family with.

Claire Benjamin, Head of Learning and Participation at National Museums Liverpool, said:

“We are excited to welcome families to National Museums Liverpool over the half term to enjoy craft sessions and workshops, along with our core offer across NML’s museums and galleries.

“Our Learning and Participation team has put together a range of fun activities, both online and offline for the whole family to enjoy.”

These activities will sit alongside NML’s regular offer, including the much-loved aquarium at World Museum, where you can also discover treasures from around the world and explore and uncover the mysteries of Ancient Egypt. The shop (11am-5pm) and café (10am-4.30pm) at World Museum will also be open for half term next week.

Our museums and galleries are open Wednesday to Sunday 10am – 5pm. Booking is essential and you must wear a face covering.

All of our museums and galleries have been awarded Good To Go status, designed by Visit England and recognised by the National Tourist Organisations of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
