Here Come the Kids! Liverpool’s First Junior Parkrun Comes to Stanley Park
7 years ago
Are your kids full of beans on Sunday mornings? Do they love a run about in the park? Course they do! Check out the free, weekly, 2K timed run for children aged 4-14 years old that is taking place at 9am every Sunday morning at Stanley Park.
Every weekend hundreds of Parkrun events take place across the world with thousands of people attending the 5K runs every Saturday (including at Croxteth Hall and Princes Park) and Junior 2K runs every Sunday.
And now Liverpool has its own junior event which has been funded by Liverpool City Council to help get children and young people more active and having fun outdoors.
Rachael O’Byrne, Stanley Park’s Community and Park Animation Manager and run director said, “Parkrun is a great activity for all ages and abilities, the warm welcome and inspiring atmosphere will keep you coming back week after week. Whether you run, jog or walk you’ll have fun!”
Dave Dando, Volunteer Outreach Ambassador for Parkrun UK and Event Director for Stanley Park Junior Parkrun added, “We have been delighted to see so many kids turn up each Sunday morning and every one of the runners finished with a smile on their face! We are looking forward to many more joining us in the coming weeks and months as the event builds.”
Councillor Peter Mitchell, Cabinet Member for Parks and Greenspaces said “We have 3 Parkrun events in our city and they’re a great way to spend time in our wonderful parks, with family, friends and neighbours. I hope lots of families come and try them out and see how great they really are!”
Children can run the course on their own or with parents or guardians. There are marshals around all the points of the course so children will be visible at all times.
To take part, all runners and volunteers need to do is register on the Parkrun event page and bring their unique printed Parkrun barcode with them simply visit: parkrun.org.uk/stanleypark-juniors/
