It’s not goodbye, it’s see you soon! Here’s what’s waiting for you in Southport…



It might seem a million miles away right now, while you’re sitting on your sofa or enjoying the views from the safety of your back garden.

But when the world begins to wake up again and you can get out and about, you can guarantee that Southport will be ready and waiting to welcome you back.

And, with its miles of open spaces, the biggest of beaches and tons of activities and attractions, it’ll be the perfect place to be.

Southport has 22 miles of coastline, the UK’s oldest iron pier and so much more for you to enjoy.


Rolling dunes surrounded by natural beauty spots just waiting to be explored…

The National Trust treasure of Formby has a glorious beach with dramatic sand dunes and is surrounded by sweeping coastal pinewoods with its very important inhabitants, the famous red squirrels.

There are walking trails to discover its prehistoric past, and crop fields you can wander through to see how asparagus shaped its today – and that’s just the start of it.

Ainsdale has got miles of golden sand, ideal for family picnics and building castles, and it’s got designated areas for the adventurous who want  the thrills of sports like kitesurfing and windsurfing.

And Southport itself is hard to beat for its seemingly endless beach – plenty of space to spread out! – and brilliant views of a very special seaside town. And don’t forget the residents of the equally beautiful Crosby beach, Antony Gormley’s iron men.

Floral displays in its parks and gardens…

Victoria Gardens is a must on the agenda! Home to Southport Flower Show, it boasts acres of open lawns, perfect for ball games and family fun, as well as a network of pathways – a favourite with cyclists and skaters.

A chance to reconnect with nature…

There’s nothing better than summer days spent outdoors in the fresh air, and there’s an abundance of it in Southport, so get cleaning your walking boots and servicing that bike.

There are 13 themed cycle trails for all ages and abilities, taking you through scenic routes and lots of lovely villages like Ince Blundell and Churchtown with so many lovely places to stop off for a cooling drink or a bite to eat.

You can blow away the cobwebs too by exploring the Southport and Sefton coast – on foot, on bike or even on horseback!  There are some fantastic cycle routes already mapped out for you to explore and follow, to discover its expansive and amazing coastline.

And the Queens Jubilee Nature Trail is a real wildlife haven. The site lies close to the town centre, and has a series of well laid out trails, information boards and picnicking areas.

A mix of activities for the whole family to enjoy…

You’ll certainly not be spoilt for choice – the difficulty will be deciding what to do, but that’s up to you.

At Marine Lake you’ll find a choice of water-based activities to keep the whole family entertained, and it also has pedalos and motor boats for hire – as well as offering high speed rides on a power boat.

There are plenty of playgrounds and all the fun of the fair in the resort… and the second longest pier in the country which is definitely worth a stroll.

Not forgetting, so many shops, in particular Lord Street, thought to have inspired the wide open boulevards of Paris swhere, also on the menu, is an eclectic mix of independent bars, tearooms, and high-end eateries.

A round of golf you say? That’s not a problem either… Southport has the highest the UK’s highest concentration of championship links courses!


Places to rest your head after a busy day of sight-seeing and fun…

If you don’t want to limit your adventures and stay and explore, there are lots of wonderful ways to rest your weary bones before you get stuck in again the next day.

There’s no shortage of grand hotels or boutique B&Bs, or coastal cottages and caravans, in or around Southport.

Getting the idea? Southport was always full of fun and adventure – and it still is.
