How many of these Liverpool venues did you visit in 2021?

We might have been living in lockdown for part of the year, but Liverpool showed it couldn’t wait to bounce back to normal with the launch of some great new venues for us all to enjoy.
So how many of these fab places did you visit in 2021?
Tres Liverpool

One of the latest venues to open in the Cavern Quarter, it was designed for one reason alone – and that’s to help you party in style. Tres is a super-sophisticated bar in Temple Court where it’s a must to dress up, get out, and pout! Cocktails flow along with high spirits and, from December and throughout 2022, VIP party people Sintillate will be hosting a monthly Saturday night residency there.
Point Blank Shooting
Bang on target, Point Blank Shooting is a state-of-the-art simulation shooting range launched in the former basement site of Olive. There are no real-life targets or graphic imagery, it’s all about speed and accuracy, giving you a chance to test your aim and trigger reflexes against your mates or your own personal best. You can even get a drink or a bite to eat, with American classics likes pizza and wings, and an extensive drinks menu including cocktails.
INNSide by Melia
A brand-new lifestyle hotel, INNSiDE Liverpool is in the heart of the city’s business district and housed in the former Liverpool Post and Echo headquarters in Old Hall Street. It’s got great rooms all with thoughtful touches to make sure your stay is nothing if not superb, and meeting rooms and spaces you can book, along with Gino D’Acampo’s Restaurant and 360 Sky Bar with some of the best views, light bites and cocktails in the city.
Brunchin’
Already being described as a hidden gem, Brunchin’ is a new restaurant and juice bar based on the first floor of the P&D Deli, off Williamson Square. Launched by Antonio Cillo – his father and uncle are general manager and head chef of Il Forno, and own the deli itself – it serves fashionable favourites like smashed avocado on toast, chai tea lattes, and fresh fruit smoothies, as well as an incredible selection of vegan and gluten-free options and light bites. It’s also got a private dining area that’s perfect for parties, baby showers and wedding receptions.
Tempest on Tithebarn
Tempest on Tithebarn has got to be one of the best new venues in the city, with loads fab and cool spaces where ‘you can eat together, drink together, dance together, love together, laugh together, and get together’. Launched by Ma Boyles’ owner Iain Hoskins in what used to be Hus, he wanted to bring a slice of the Big Apple to Liverpool, so it’s big on brunches and lunches, and small plates dining, and a great place to meet your mates for a drink with a bulging bar portfolio that includes an exclusive German Pilsner made exclusively for Tempest.
Bouchon
From the people who brought us Bacaro, came this French Bistro in what used to be Ruby & Rocket. Aiming to offer comfort food at decent prices throughout the day, and a busy bar where people can gather for food, drink and lively conversation, its menu highlights include Oysters, Classic French Onion Soup, Charcuterie boards, Rotisserie Chicken, Sole Meunière to Tarte Tatin and Chocolate Fondant. C’est magnifique!
Barnacle

Paul Askew’s Barnacle on Duke Street
Barnacle is the newest name at Duke Street Food and Drink Market and it’s got a great pedigree with Art School boss Paul Askew at the helm, along with Bone and Block’s Harry Marquart and local kitchen stars Kieran Gill and Jake Lewis. Like the name suggests, Barnacle will focus on the city’s food and drink provenance, with dishes inspired by, and drawn from, local producers, farmers and artisans to ingredients linked to the port’s bustling trade over many years.
The Baltic Hotel
This year saw the launch of the Baltic Triangle’s first hotel, offering “a place where punk art meets urban chic and traditional hip joins synonymously with effortless cool”. Looking more than a little like New York’s Flat Iron building, each of its 58 rooms have music memorabilia adorning the walls, fully-stocked Marshall speaker mini-bars and interactive tablet controls. There are luxurious lounge areas and Peloton bikes have also been installed in some spaces, so there’s no excuse for ditching the health and fitness regime just because you’re away.
VRVE Liverpool
Get ready to live out your fantasies! VRVE is a new Virtual Reality Visitor Experience which uses cutting-edge technology to allow you to enter a make-believe world where almost anything is possible. Put on your VR headset to drive around the track with Luigi, Wario and Co, step into the ring with Adonis Creed or face your fears with a daring, death-defying free climb across sky-high canyons. There are more than 50 games and experiences to choose from and, when you’ve finished your adventure, you can relax in the café with a drink and a bite to eat.
Maggie Fu in Liverpool ONE
Maggie Fu launches its second site @Liverpool_ONE on 17 May. We went to get a sneak peak of the new Hanover Street venue. 😍
— The Guide Liverpool (@TheGuideLpool) May 3, 2021
Maggie Fu is an independent family-owned restaurant specialising in Asian street food. They’ve built up a big devoted following – in real life and on Instagram – thanks to dishes like their salt and pepper chicken and super-popular king prawn pad thai. Starting in Smithdown Road, and now in Hanover Street too, it’s the perfect place to catch up with friends, treat your family or just sit, drink and eat while you watch the world go by.
GPO Food Hall
The biggest food hall in Liverpool opened inside Metquarter this year, with independent street food and drink traders taking over the historic former Post Office building. Named as a nod to its postal past, The GPO showcases the region’s best up-and-coming independent food talent, giving customers a wide range of different cuisines. From breakfast through to late-night drinks it has 11 independent kitchens and a huge 11,000sqft space which can seat up to 300. Food includes Jailbird Nashville Fried Chicken, Patty B’s Burgers, Ice ice creams and desserts, Mexican from Torito Taco, and healthy eastern Mediterranean food from MorMor.
