We’re a city packed with animal lovers and our four legged, lop eared, tail wagging besties top the bill. Owning a dog in Liverpool is an absolute delight with so many amazing walks, events and dog friendly pubs and restaurants, there’s very few places your pooch can’t go these days. To celebrate the puppers, woofers, big, small, fluffy and cheeky little legends, we’ve put together this handy guide to owning a dog in Liverpool. Looking for a new walk route, in need of a kick ass groomer or want to show off your dog to win best in show, we hear you! (Plus it’s an excuse to post loads of pictures of cute dogs too!)
A Guide to Owning a Dog in Liverpool…….
Parks and Walks
Chances are, you and your pooch will already have a fave walk but if you’re looking to explore a bit, we’ve pulled together some walks that have a pub at the end to enjoy a well earned drink and scooby snack. Here’s our top 3….
1 – Calderstones Park & Three Piggies Allerton Road
Calderstones Park has so much to offer. The stunning Japanese garden, hidden paths and trails and of course mountains of open park space to chuck balls, Frisbees and anything else your four-legged friend likes to chase about. Stop in at The Reader for a quick brew or an ice-cream if you’ve got the kids, or wander down to Allerton Road for a sit down and a pint at Three Piggies. Check out the bacon butties here.
2 – Otterspool & Baltic Market
Why not set off from Otterspool with your dog and walk the Mersey path (no traffic and lots of lamp posts to sniff) along past Brunswick Dock and along to Liverpool Marina before heading up to the old Cains Brewery. Baltic Market is open from 11am a the weekends and offers up the best local independent food, drink and produce plus they love a rub behind the ears too! Info here.
3 – Crosby Beach & The Victoria
If your dog hasn’t had a little wee on an Iron Man on Crosby Beach…..are you really a scouse dog owner? Ideal for parking nearby, Crosby Beach is another great spot to walk a loop and burn off some steam when the tide is out. Park up on Burbo Bank and walk along to the Marina and back, stopping in at family run pub, The Victoria. You might even win the quiz! More on Crosby Beach here.

Table for Two
How awful is the guilt when you go out to eat without your dog? It’s the pits isn’t it? Well worry no more because Liverpool is leading the way with taking your dog out to dine. Brunch with Bruno, lunch with Lassie and chill with a delicious dinner with your dachshund at our top 3 Liverpool eateries…
1 – Love Thy Neighbour, Bold Street
Love Thy Neighbour love dogs so much, they host regular socials such as the Pug Brunch a few weeks ago! Grab a healthy brekkie, lunch or dinner at this Bold Street wholefood emporium and take the pooch too. Menus here.
2 – Milo Lounge, Lark Lane
If you’ve walked your legs off around Sefton Park and fancy tapas or lunch in the sun, Milo Lounge, Lark Lane has the perfect suntrap terrace and plenty of quiet spots for your dog to chill. Opening times and menus here.
3 – The Cow & Co Café, Cleveland Square
Did someone order a pupperchino? Look at this little legend ready and waiting to greet customers at The Cow & Co Café, Cleveland Sq (just across from John Lewis at Liverpool ONE. We love the fresh coffee and homemade cakes here, a perfect pit stop with kerb-side tables too. Info here.
Looking Good
We’re yet to see a pooch with a curly blow or pin curls but we’re sure it’s only a matter of time because looking good and taking care of our dogs is paramount. Pampered pooches love a bit of chill time and you nominated your top three Liverpool groomers here….

2 – Four Paws, Queens Drive
Located just across from The Rocket on Queens Drive, Four Paws dog grooming salon is really handy to get to and the pooches love a little nose out of the window at the traffic while being pampered and clipped to look their best. Look at little Missy there! Book in here.
3 – Growling to be Groomed
OMG FLuffy, you look fabulous! Finding the time to get to a groomers can be difficult and that’s where Growling to be Groomed comes in. Owner Julie brings her mobile grooming unit to you and your pooch for a make over at home! Find out more and book here.
Home Away from Home
If leaving your dog to go out for a bite is a nightmare, going away on holiday can be near impossible. Without close family to dog sit, it’s a case of finding a boarding kennel that goes the extra mile, and these Liverpool Dog Hotels are a true home away from home….

Doggy Events
There’s always a reason to dress your dog up and join in the fun across the Liverpool City Region. From fun runs to doggy socials (did you see the amazing pics from Dog Mania and the Baltic Market Dogs of the Caribbean events?) to Dogs Trust roadshows and charity walks, there’s something to suit doggos of all shapes and sizes. Here’s what’s coming up this summer…….
1 – Bark In The Park, Merseyside Dogs Home
There’s an entire day dedicated to our doggie best friends as Bark in the Park heads to Victoria Park, Southport on 22nd and 23rd September 2018. You can expect displays, stalls, prizes, lots of doggy treats, camping and an open air cinema too! Click here to get your tickets now.
2 – The Mowgli Trust Dog Show
Claremont Farm, Wirral will be overrun with dogs on 23rd September as the first ever Mowgli Trust Dog Show gets underway. Supporting Claire House Children’s Hospital, you can meet Dulux dog Lewis plus a whole load of competition categories and prizes. Find out more here.
3 – 2018 Dog Jog
On 19th August you and your pooch are invited to take part in the 2018 Dog Jog at Croxteth Park. It’s a fun, non-timed 5k course that brings people and dog owners together to have fun and pick up a goodie bag at the end too. More info here.
