It’s Better By Bus! 10 things you might not know about Liverpool buses

Whether you travel on the bus every day or like our Jay, you haven’t stepped foot on a double decker since you were a teen, check out these brand new updates making city region travel, even easier.

For the first time, Merseytravel, Arriva and Stagecoach have teamed up to be the driving force behind Liverpool City Region’s newest bus campaign. Better By Bus will be a catalyst to motivate people to change their travelling habits away from the car, and choose to use the bus for work, play and everything in between.

We’re celebrating Better By Bus week by taking as many journeys as we can around the region to check out the benefits for ourselves. Jay and Kate will be travelling to work, filming and no doubt socialising using the bus and you can check out our vlogs and pics on Twitter @TheGuideLpool throughout the week. Watch the video above with Jay & Kate for more info.

Gone are the days of boring bus journeys, waiting around at bus stops for what seems like hours and having to work out complicated city zones.

Here’s 10 things you might not know about the Merseytravel bus network….

1 – First up, did you know there’s more than 6,000 bus stops and 10 bus stations around the city region?

2 – Bus services on some routes around the city are as frequent as every 3 minutes. Gotta love the 14 and 82!

3 – Got a long commute? Don’t waste your data, simply log on to the free on-board wifi instead.

4 – Run your battery down watching funny cat vids on YouTube? Don’t worry, you can now charge your phone in the handy chair-back USB ports. Don’t forget your cable!

5 – It’s now as little as £2.10 for a single and £4.00 for a day rider ticket which enables you to travel across the region until midnight, how good is that?

6 – Remember when the city was broken up into zones? Well not anymore, explore the Liverpool Plus area, from Southport to Speke with on handy ticket.

7 – And buying your ticket is easier than ever before. Book them online, using the app or the traditional way when you jump on the bus…preferably with the right change!

8 – Speaking of apps, both Arriva and Stagecoach offer a live map option so you can track your bus in real time. No more wondering when the 10a is going to turn up.

9 – The Merseytravel website is your go to for planning journeys across the region. With all the bus timetables and travel updates and details on promotions.

10 – Did you know there’s a number of night bus services that run from Liverpool city centre to as far as Chester on both Friday and Saturday nights. No one wants to pay that taxi fare!

To get up to date info on bus timetables and to download the Arriva and Stagecoach apps head to www.merserytravel.gov.uk  and check out all the Better By Bus campaign events on the official website www.betterbybus.org
