Klopp poem by Liverpool writer Sean Cullen has had fans across the world in tears
9 months ago
An emotional poem about Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has had fans across the world in tears.
āOur Kloppā has been written by Sean Cullen, a well-known local writer, creative and director, to thank the football giant for all heās done for the team and the city.
And Sean, a huge LFC fan, says heās been amazed and overwhelmed by the response to it already:
āI put it out a couple of weeks ago and Iāve had fans all over the world saying how emotional it got them, and how it moved them to tears,ā says Sean.
āThey have said it summed up how everyoneās feeling; the reactionās just been brilliant.ā
Dad-of-two Sean ā he and wife, voiceover artist Catherine Turgoose have two young daughters ā says he was moved to write the poem in homage to the German footballing legend who took over at Anfield in October 2015.
The 44-year-old whoās originally from Wavertree, adds:
āBeing a fan I knew how Klopp had and has ingrained himself within the club and with the city.
āItās all the stuff heās done outside the club and the team too, the charity stuff.
āWe are a very welcoming city and when people come and embrace it, and us, like Klopp has, thatās a big deal.
āWe have seen this nice, genuine, and sincere guy, who was given the Freedom of the City, and I just started writing it to him, to say thank you.ā
Like everyone, Sean was surprised when Jurgen Klopp revealed his departure at the end of the season in January.
āWhen he announced he was going it was a shock for everyone. We knew it would happen, but we didnāt see it coming at that particular time.
āWe were doing well again, and we just didnāt expect it.ā
The poem is a look-back on Kloppās near nine-year reign at the club as it prepares to embark on a new chapter without him.
āThis is a reflection of his time, a condensed version of what heās done,ā explains Sean. āItās been such a whirlwind, in a good way.
āThe idea was to look back at all those trophies heās won and put it down, and it takes you on a little journey, an emotional journey, which Iāve hopefully done quite well.
āIt was hard, there are so many moments which have been fantastic but I had to cherry pick the best ones, like the Barcelona 4-0 game: but itās not always about the trophies either. Itās been his career, getting the key to the city, and bringing on the youth team which won the League Cup recently.
āAnd itās about him being a nice guy and saying thanks at the end. He cares so much. Being from the city Iām quite a people person and we absorb peopleās energy, and I think Klopp has come from a similar background.
āHeās a people centric person, arm round you and give-you-a-hug sort of person, and thatās really important. Men didnāt used to express how they felt but to see him with the players was amazing, with guys like Henderson who travelled across the country and left family at 20 years of age, living on his own in a high-pressure situation.
āTo have someone like that put their arm around you and galvanise you and be there for you as a father figure was everything, he understands and he cares, on the pitch and off. Thereās that connection for people.ā
Sean is hoping to widen the reach of his poem even further and looking at getting it projected onto a building either in Liverpool city centre or Anfield itself.
āI know Klopp doesnāt want a big hoo-ha about him leaving but he did say there would be a time and a place and, hopefully, the end of the season is when it will be, and to get the poem projected onto a building so everyone can see it would be great. Iām working on that.
āItās not about saying look at me and what Iāve done, but saying thank you to this man for all heās done, so he can see the appreciation and absorb it.
āIt would be lovely for Klopp to see it or hear it too – now that would be amazing.ā
