Knowsley Safari needs you!… to find beetles, bugs and butterflies
2 years ago
Knowsley Safari is inviting members of the public to take part in ‘SOS (Spotted on Site) BioBlitz’, a nationwide campaign to measure biodiversity by recording native wildlife including spiders, butterflies, moths and bees.
It’s well known for being a great place to visit, but Knowsley Safari is more than just a top tourist attraction on Merseyside.
For as well as offering a wildlife haven for its 500 wild animals, carrying out vital conservation work, and providing fun its sea-lion house and amusement park – and more – Knowsley Safari is committed to the community, reaching out to hundreds of children across Merseyside to help them have happier and healthier lives.
Knowsley Safari visitors are encouraged to take part in a range of specially designed fun and interactive monitoring activities, including BioBlitz Family Bingo, building Bug Hotels and creating Bird and Butterfly Feeders, which guests can take home and use in their own outdoor areas.
Participants upload their wildlife findings to the iNaturalistUK nature recording app, available on App Store and Google Play, where results are collated to provide an overview of the UK’s rich biodiversity.
Rachel Scott, Head of Marketing, Knowsley Safari said:
“We’re so excited to be contributing to the SOS BioBlitz. In addition to everything the Safari offers, our team and visitors will be playing their part in creating a snapshot of the UK’s native ecosystem. We hope to see many members of our local community and further afield taking part.”
SOS BioBlitz activities are free of charge for regular ticket holders during the Early May Bank Holiday weekend and there’s 25% off admission prices from Thursday 27 April until Tuesday 2 May for online bookings, making a wild day out over the Bank Holiday – and during teacher strikes – even more tempting.
