After 15 years, LEAF Bold Street is set to close its doors after siblings Natalie and Graham Haywood have made the incredibly difficult decision to close.

The space that has become so much more than a venue. It has been a cultural hub, a creative sanctuary and a gathering place where communities have bloomed over millions of cups of loose-leaf tea, and on Sunday 21st September it will close its doors for good. The following week, a flea market sale of LEAF’s stock and equipment takes place on Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th September, from 10am – 3pm, with everyone welcome to take a memory home.

65–67 Bold Street is where the LEAF story began and its legacy will live on in the city. The spirit that started there continues to flourish at LEAF Smithdown Road, Little LEAF, One Fine Day, and OH ME OH MY – each venue proudly independent, distinct in character and thriving.

LEAF Bold Street will be fondly remembered as one of Liverpool’s hospitality originators – a trailblazer that did things differently. With a punk-tea shop ethos, Natalie and Graham reimagined the humble cuppa, creating a destination that became treasured across the city and beyond.

Natalie says:

“LEAF Bold Street has always been about people and community in this beautiful building we’ve proudly called home. It’s been a beating heart – filled with laughter, art, music, and endless unforgettable moments. We’re honoured to have shared these moments with you all across the years. To our regulars, staff, collaborators, and friends – we thank you. Your ongoing love and support made this space so special to us. Now it feels like the right time for a new operator to take the baton as we continue focusing on our other venues.”

Since 2010, the building has hosted thousands of live gigs, DJ sets, art events, weddings, parties, talks, and more. This echoed its past as The Yamen Café, where similar experiences were shared over a century ago and only discovered when a near-pristine menu from 1913 fluttered down from the rafters during building work, in a story which went global.

Natalie adds:

“We’ve got some of our absolute favourites coming to share one more time with us, with dates for BODA, Harvest Sun, Pudding Club and many more. They will all continue at our other sites as we move forward, but this will be the last chance to experience them with us at LEAF Bold Street. There’s also going to be live music every weekend until we close.”

“We’ll be marking the end of LEAF on Bold Street with these last shows and events and a flea market sale of stock and equipment sale on Tues 23rd and Weds 24th September, from 10am – 3pm. We’re excited to now focus our energies on our other venues moving beyond here and we have got lots of exciting plans. Because as we’ve always believed – ‘Where there’s tea, there’s hope.’”
