LEAF on Bold Street to host Dorothy Bird’s album launch event

Leading with heartbreaking delicacy and a clear sense of artistic intention, Dorothy Bird makes music for heavy thinkers to escape into.

This September, the Berlin-Liverpool based art-pop songwriter hosts the final live show at LEAF on Bold Street before it closes its doors – following the release of her sophomore album, Whispering Paper. Produced by Dorothy Bird and Jon Lawton, and recorded at Crosstown Studios, the collection of tracks/songs showcase Bird’s distinctive vocal and innovative soundscapes, as she continues to evolve artistically.

“With Whispering Paper, I’m searching for an evocative and powerful connection. It continues the style of music from my debut album while opening up more deeply and directly.”

With ringing endorsements from BBC Introducing, Tom Robinson’s Fresh On The Net, and a host of tastemaking magazines in both England and her native Germany, Dorothy’s sound is startlingly original and unmistakably her own. Recent live performances include a celebrated concert at Liverpool’s prestigious The Tung Auditorium, further establishing her reputation as a compelling live performer.

Bird’s songs express complex emotions and ideas, soothing the soul and welcoming a moment of calm and freedom from the chaos of the world. Written and recorded in the wake of deep personal loss, Whispering Paper is an album forged in a time of grief, but it radiates quiet resilience, emotional clarity, and a deep love for life.

Presenting haunting atmospheres, her music is a blend of electronic and acoustic instruments – where ethereal synths and atmospheric guitar are layered with captivating beats, sonic textures, and crystalline vocals that softly and melodically whisper poetic references on life. The result? A magical and mysterious tapestry.

The ‘Whispering Paper’ album launch takes place at LEAF (Bold Street, Liverpool) on 20th September, promoted by Crosstown Records in association with Mellowtone.
