Starting this week Liverpool ONE will be abuzz with activities celebrating Liverpool’s love for music and sport right the way through to September 3rd.
Donna Howitt, Marketing Director at Liverpool ONE, said: “This summer we’re bringing back some popular favourites and adding some new elements to our summer line up.”
The famous Liverpool ONE piano festival is back for its seventh year.
Six pianos are once again dotted around the Liverpool ONE complex filling the city centre with the sound of live music.
Donna added: “Even in its seventh year, Tickle the Ivories continues to surprise us and demonstrates just what music means to people.”
Already this year, Grammy award-winning jazz artist Diana Krall was spotted playing to the unsuspecting crowds at Liverpool ONE.
Tickle the Ivories is open to absolutely anyone, regardless of age or ability. Those who take part in Tickle the Ivories are licensed to busk meaning performers get to keep the money they raise.
Budding pianists wishing to busk on one of the pianos should book a slot at www.liverpool-one.com/tickle or contact Open Culture on 0151 478 4066. Members of the public can share their performance online using the hashtag #tickletheivories.
Inspired by the city’s 2022 Commonwealth Bid, Liverpool ONE will host a range of summer sports on Chavasse Park.
Keep fit and active during the summer break and try out a variety of commonwealth sports including a 100m running track, table tennis, artistic gymnastics and long jump.
Donna said: “Together with everyone in Liverpool, we are excited by the prospect of our city playing host to the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
“Here at Liverpool ONE, we’ll be showing our support by providing an opportunity for anyone looking to find a new sport or simply show off their talents.”
Winner podiums, as seen at the Commonwealth Games, will be dotted around the park for competitors to celebrate their achievements.
Also look out for workshops delivered by graduate and student coaches from the BA Hons Sports Coaching Programme at Liverpool John Moores University throughout the summer. Ideal for children aged 3 – 12, these drop-in sessions are free with no need to book and will feature activities such as hockey, athletics, cricket and high jump (limited availability per session).
In addition to the free sports on the park, there are a number of kid-friendly rides for the youngest visitors to enjoy. From bungee trampolines to bumper cars and everything in between, there is enough to keep kids entertained for hours on end.
Tokens can be purchased on the day. Rides are open 10am until 6pm daily.
Make the most of the good weather, pull up a deck chair and enjoy a picnic on the Chavasse Park or the newly turfed Sugar House Steps.
There is also a pop-up ice cream parlour and sweet shop, located on the park, for a well-earned treat.
Alternatively, visit The Terrace on the top level of Liverpool ONE for great restaurants with outdoor dining options. Restaurants include the newly opened Five Guys, Las Iguanas and Pizza Express. For those that fancy a Pimm’s in the sun with a spot of live music, try The Club House.
Shoppers can also take a break in one of the specially designed picnic boats dotted among the famous brands along Paradise Street and Peter’s Lane.
With stores including Victoria’s Secret, John Lewis and Zara open until 8pm weekdays, there are plenty of opportunities to pick up all the holiday essentials and maybe even a cocktail as many of Liverpool ONE’s restaurants and bars are open until late too.
For those wishing to stay indoors, catch the latest summer blockbusters at ODEON or play a round of mini golf at Jungle Rumble.
