Summer holidays mean summer clothes shopping and even if you’re not planning a huge spend, it’s nice to have a few extra new season bits so we spoke to Coco Capri owner Chanel to get the latest tips and advice.
If you’re going away then the big question is always what to take and if you’re trying to cram as much in as possible you don’t want to waste space on things that’ll stay in the case.
So, what are the fashion buys that you’ll be guaranteed to wear, and what will look good on all ages and sizes?
Chanel Yol has worked in fashion for 15 years and opened her first Liverpool independent boutique, Coco Capri, in West Derby at the end of last year.
The 30-year-old says she loves giving advice to her customers and helping them make the trends work for them.
“I’m always truthful about sizing because some things that are one size might only fit a size 10 but others might go up to a size 18, it really varies. I’ll try things on myself to make sure so I know what will fit and look right.
“I’ve been there, I’ve been bigger, so I know how awkward it can feel in some shops and I want people to feel comfortable and there be something for every age, shape and size.”
Here are Chanel’s 6 must-pack Coco Capri wardrobe essentials for summer 2024 …
Cat eye sunglassesÂ
They’ve been flying off the shelves so they’re definitely an essential to take away with you and they’re a good choice even if it’s not for holiday because they’ll instantly trend up any outfit. They’re designer inspired, metal framed chic sunglasses, and smaller rather than over-sized. Celebs like Hayley Bieber and Kendall Jenner have been wearing them so they’re this summer’s must-haves. One of the reasons they’re our bestseller is they’re also cheap, £14.99, so it doesn’t matter as much if you end up leaving them somewhere!
Monochrome bikini
The monochrome two-piece bikini, inspired by Chanel and Coco Capri, is really on-trend. It’s in a plain block colour white with black edging and also the reverse, so it’s got 70s Bond girl vibes, then you match your own accessories. The bottoms are a full brief which I really like because with a lot of the bikinis you can get your bum cheeks are out! These bottoms aren’t like that, and if you wear the top with a pair of trousers it looks like a crop top so it could take you day to night if you’re going on to beach parties and beach bars.Â
Sarong skirt
Wraparound tie sarong skirts are so in at the minute and I never take mine off when I’m away. A lot of girls wear them in the evening too so it’s another day to night piece, and you can get them in all different fabrics. You can have your bikini on with it in the daytime and then put a crop top or a body on in the evening and it looks gorgeous. I always double knot at the side and if you’ve got a tummy or any lumps and bumps you want to hide, the ruching does that.
Kaftan
I love kaftans, I’d say they’re my number one must-have for a holiday. I like a floor-length one because they’re timeless and they always look classy. There are lots of different choices, chiffon, crochet, anything with patterns, colours, metallics, so you can easily find one that suits you. We have a shorter one that’s a beautiful paisley chiffon with gold foil, so when the sun catches it it’s lovely. Even though it’s a kaftan it’s a dressy fabric so you don’t feel scruffy in it, it’s much nicer than throwing on a plain sundress.
Accessories
We sell so many statement earrings, cuffs and I love layered chain necklaces for holiday because you can add these and you’re dressed up and ready to go out, they really finish your outfit. Drop earrings are the most popular this summer, and I am all for gold but it does depend on what you’re wearing because I’d always look at what metallic it has in it, or what tone it is. If it’s warmer tones I’d go gold, and for cooler tones the silver will match more. Find more in store at Coco Capri.
Shorts setÂ
Have you even been on holiday if you haven’t taken something linen or cheesecloth?! Striped linen look shorts sets have been selling out, and cheesecloth that’s ruffled at the bottom. They’re both nice and light on your skin if you get sunburned and you can get away with them being a bit creased – although you can always pull the fabric straight and give it a blast of the hairdryer! Softer colours look best in those fabrics, so go for pastels and neutrals. White is our biggest seller, and also stone or white with a pale stripe.Â
