Liverpool entrepreneur unveils plans for new Cavern Walks Hotel
2 years ago
The man behind plans for a brand new hotel and entertainment space at Cavern Walks is pledging to bring back the ‘Merseybeat boom’ to Mathew Street.
Craig Greenwood, 34, recently unveiled his plans for the former shopping centre which he is transforming into a 125 bedroom hotel.
It will be spread across seven floors and include a function room, bar and dining facilities and cinema room.
The venue will be known as ‘The Cavern Walks Hotel’ and include tributes to The Beatles and other famous musicians and bands from the 1960s golden era, when the likes of Gerry & The Pacemakers and Cilla Black topped the charts.
Work has now started on the hotel and although Craig is expecting a phased opening, rooms could be available in the summer of 2023, coinciding with the arrival of Eurovision to Liverpool.
Now the young entrepreneur, originally from Croxteth, believes the development can bring the ‘boom’ back to Mathew Street.
Greenwood said:
“Mathew Street still attracts visitors from all over the world. It is synonymous with The Beatles and the Merseybeat era and that’s something we’re aiming to bring back.Â
“The Cavern Walks hotel will breathe new life into Mathew Street and has the potential to bring a Merseybeat style boom back to the area.”
“Mathew Street was the beating heart of the city in its 1960s heyday and it can be again.
“This isn’t just a hotel development, this will bring massive regeneration to the area and revitalise Mathew Street. People from the city and visitors alike will love it.
“The Cavern Walks Hotel will be a destination in its own right. It will be a symbol of a modern, thriving Liverpool but will pay homage to our incredible music and cultural history.”
