Liverpool FC’s greatest ever goal scorer, Ian Rush, was recognised for his achievements in the game with the Lifetime Contribution Award at last night’s Northwest Football Awards.
Liverpool FC Ambassador Ian Rush was present to be handed The Maurice Watkins, CBE Lifetime Contribution Award in recognition of his extraordinary impact on football, both as a player and in his post-career contributions.
A prolific striker, Rushie holds an unmatched tally of 346 goals across 660 appearances for the Reds and was the first ever British player to win Europe’s golden boot. His legacy continues to extend beyond his work on the pitch, as he now proudly serves as an LFC Ambassador.
This role sees Ian working closely with the LFC Foundation through football and beyond; empowering young people, supporting families, and creating opportunities that inspire future generations to reach their full potential.
Ian Rush said:
“I’m honoured to receive the Lifetime Contribution Award this evening. Football has given me so much, and it’s a privilege to continue contributing to the Northwest football scene and represent this great club globally as an LFC Ambassador.
“A huge thank you to my teammates, coaches, staff, fans and family – for supporting me throughout my career.”
LFCW boss Matt Beard took home the Manager of the Season award for guiding his squad to a fourth-place finish in the 2023-24 Women’s Super League.
Under his influence, LFCW wrapped up the season with a strong four-game winning streak, including victories over Chelsea and Manchester United.
Beard expressed his gratitude for the award, stating:
“I am completely humbled by this award. However, last season’s success would not have been possible without the fantastic team that I have around me. The dedication, talent, and hard work of both the players and staff were nothing short of incredible.”
“This recognition belongs to all of us, and it’s a reflection of the collective effort we put into every challenge we faced last season.”
The annual Northwest Football Awards honour the brightest talents and key contributors within the region’s football scene. Celebrating individuals who demonstrate excellence on and off the pitch, the Awards highlight football’s role in shaping the region’s identity and boosting its economy.
