Liverpool Glows Green for Clatterbridge Walk

600 walkers turned on Friday for the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity’s first ever Glow Green Walk.

The participants who set off from Exchange Flags were decked out in green, with glow sticks, tshirts and wigs. The event even saw Tinkerbells and Incredible Hulks taking part.

Following a route which passed many of Liverpool’s landmarks which also glowed green to mark World Cancer Day for the Charity, including the Town Hall, Royal Liver Building, St Georges Hall, Radio City Tower and of course Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool, the 8k walk ended back at Exchange Flags.

While the walkers were filled with fun and laughter, there was time to reflect too and mark World Cancer Day for Clatterbridge with hundreds of candle lanterns displayed on the steps of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, along with messages of thanks, hope and love.

Amongst those walking was Russ Scanlon from Warrington who, along with a team of 50 friends & family took part in memory of his wife Deb and has raised £20,000 so far!

He said: “To say I’m overwhelmed by the support we’ve had is an understatement. I just cannot thank every single supporter for helping us to raise such an incredible amount. We are doing this to say thank you to the team at Clatterbridge who cared for my wonderful wife Deb and to help the thousands more like her who need them.”

Katrina Bury, Head of Charity at The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity said:

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the response to our first ever Glow Green night walk.

“It’s going to be a very powerful sight as buildings across the region light up green for Clatterbridge on World Cancer Day, while our supporters create their own wave of colour around the City, walking together against cancer.

The money raised tonight will fund the latest research, new technology, innovations in care, the best environment and the most positive experience for patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

We also want to thank our generous event sponsors Brabners and Regatta along with the many businesses and people who are helping to make Glow Green possible.”
