Liverpool is the city most obsessed with boxing according to this research
2 years ago
As boxing fans anticipate Jake Paul take on Tommy Fury on February 26th, a brand-new study reveals which UK cities are the most obsessed with boxing.
The study reveals Liverpool is the most obsessed with the sport, with 3,426 online searches per 100,000 people per month- a total of 16,600 per month.
Placing second in the ranking was Preston, which came out with 2,676 searches per 100,000 people- despite having a significantly smaller population than Liverpool.
The research by betting sites comparison site findbettingsites.co.uk analysed 60 major UK cities based on the number of times each city Google’s search terms.
Twenty-four relevant search terms were used in the study, such as “jake paul vs tommy fury”.
The number of searches for each term was then added up to give a total of searches for each city. This was then compared to the population to calculate how many searches per 100,000 people.
The research found that Liverpool ranked particularly highly for “boxing news” and “boxing tonight”, demonstrating a clear interest in watching the sport.
“Boxing news” has the highest number of searches, with 6,600 per month.
A spokesperson person at findbettingsites.co.uk has commented on the findings,
“Boxing has long been a British obsession, and it is no surprise the country shows such high levels of interest.
“Liverpool’s fanbase is generally impressive, being described by Sky Sports as a ‘true boxing city’.
“Liverpool has always produced high-quality boxers including George Turpin, Tony Bellew, Johnny Cooke and John Conteh.
“Liverpool has a significantly smaller population in comparison to London and Birmingham, therefore it is interesting to see such a huge attraction to the sport.”
