Liverpool local takes on London Marathon in support of Maggie’s Cancer Charity
7 months ago
This Sunday, Vicky Fitzgerald, of Liverpool, will be running over 26 miles in the London Marathon for Maggie’s Cancer Charity following the support her father-in-law received during his diagnosis.
Maggie’s works closely with individuals to identify support that empowers them to negotiate a way through their own cancer making life feel more manageable. The team offer practical, emotional and psychological support to anyone affected by cancer, offering access to a wide range of life-changing services, for free. This means getting useful information about the side effects of their treatment. Helping with money worries. Or simply being comforted by a friendly face with a cup of tea. Maggie’s provide all their support free of charge to people of any age, with any type of cancer, at any stage of their illness.
Vickie said:
“My father-in-law Tom was diagnosed in late 2020 with a brain tumour, and Maggie’s Wirral stepped in to support him. Tom found Maggie’s extremely helpful but sadly he passed away a year later in December 2021. As a family we are very grateful to Maggie’s for being there for Tom during the hardest of times, and that’s why I’ve decided to give something back, and take on this incredible challenge, in memory of my father-in-law.”
Kathy Wright, Centre Head at Maggie’s said:
“We are extremely thankful to Vicky for taking on this huge challenge, and we wish her lots of luck. We will be cheering all our runners on this year with great gratitude, without people like Vicky we simply could not provide the cancer support to the thousands of visits we receive each year. It’s important that people know we’re here for anyone affected by cancer, and because bewildering changes not only affect the person with cancer, but also their family and friends, we offer our services to them as well. If you or anyone you know is struggling, please do just drop in.”
Maggie’s Wirral is built on the grounds of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (Wirral) and is a warm and welcoming place acting as a safe haven and providing an alternative to the hospital environment for cancer patients and their friends and family. Maggie’s relies solely on voluntary donations to support the ongoing services and keep their doors open.
