Liverpool Mental Health Festival returns with its most diverse programme to date

Aiming to bust the stigma around mental distress, this immersive festival encourages us all to reach out with confidence.

Festival organisers Liverpool Mental Health Consortium have teamed up with a range of partners such as The Comedy Trust, We Make Places and Unity Theatre to bring you the most exciting and diverse programme to date.

86,000 people in Liverpool experience mental distress of some kind. But with an estimated 56,000 of these not currently in touch with services, our city has much to gain from busting the stigma around mental distress so that we can feel more confident about talking to someone when we’re not feeling well.

Liverpool Mental Health

And this is just what Liverpool Mental Health Festival 2017 sets out to do: break down barriers by providing a platform for people to get together, to talk, be creative, learn something new and most importantly have some fun!

Kicking off with a comedy night on Sunday 1st October 2017, this year’s festival programme includes a specially curated Art Exhibition at the Brink, a film night at FACT, Drama in Development, the Lunatic Fringe poetry slam, creative workshops, Open Mic nights, dog-walking, singing, a Football Tournament and lots of activities for young people.

Don’t miss the festival’s biggest public event on Williamson Square on 7th October where you’ll be treated to the finest in local acoustic music and performance including Bollywood dancing as well as, for the first time, food and drink! The festival ends on Saturday 14th October with a final spectacular at Blackburne House: expect festival food, fire and tribal drums!

The festival programme booklet includes features on festival patrons Bill Ryder-Jones, the Singh Twins and an exclusive Q & A with new festival patron Danish comedian Sofie Hagen. It can be picked up for free at event spaces, venues and cafes across the city and online by clicking here.
