Liverpool Music Week is coming and this is what you need to know

2017 sees Liverpool Music Week celebrate its 15th birthday in style with one hell of a party for music lovers across the city.

Every year the festival out-does itself, and this is once again the case. However, with a line-up like this we can’t see how the 16th year of the festival will out-do this birthday bonanza.

We’ve picked out some of the acts playing that we certainly won’t be missing. Birngon Liverpool Music Week 2017.

Thanks to Liverpool Music Week, Chic are playing their first Liverpool date since 1979 and are going to accompanied by guitar legend, Nile Rodgers. The 26th is the opening night of a week of musical treats and what better way to start than at the cities biggest venue with two living legends coming together to deliver classics such as Good Times and Dance, Dance, Dance.

Mount Kimbie @ Invisible Wind Factory – 27th October

From the get go LMW dominates the local music scene, as one might expect. This is one for the slightly more hipster, more niche, although still maintaining the festivals quality into the second evening’s festivities. Mount Kimbie are an electronic duo that have made quite the name for themselves on the underground scene creating sounds that are trendier than the latest pair of Vans trainers and a live show as quirky as the last time you bleached your hair. The pair come to the Invisible Wind Factory to continue what is sure to be one of the best LMW’s to date.

Dan Croll @ The Arts Club – 29th October

The theme of undeniable quality that is threaded throughout the festival is easily continued with a precious, local artist of ours – Mr. Dan Croll. Having toured the world supporting the likes of Mumford & Sons and been featured on FIFA, as well as an almost uncountable adverts, Dan Croll has somehow outdone himself with his latest, most mature album. He now brings his retro, yet relevant live sound and image back to the city at the Arts Club. This is a special one considering the anniversary of Liverpool Music Week and is definitely not one to miss.

Abstract Orchestra Plays Madvillainy, 24 Kitchen Street – 29th October

In 2004 MF DOOM and Madlib came together to create Madvillainy, combining the vocal prowess of MF DOOM and the unmatched production skill of Madlib. This went on to become one of the biggest albums in hip hop.

While we wait on the long awaited follow up to Madvillainy, the UK’s number one hip hop outfit, Abstract Orchestra, play homage to the cult classic. The 16-piece orchestra have created a bespoke live show to celebrate the album, playing the full album and throwing in a few DOOM one offs just to keep you on your toes.

Their performances at the likes of Glastonbury Festival have become famous for creating a party atmosphere on stage and for the crowd. Expect the stage to be as crammed as the audience with percussionists and keyboard players dotted all over the shop, part of what makes the groove so infectious.

Little Cub, EBGBS – 1ST November

Continuing the theme of being on the cutting edge of new music, LMW brings us Little Cub, an innovative, electronic 3 piece that fuse modern Indie with 80sand 90s synth Pop, often reminiscent of Pulp’s darker side. Their latest release, Still Life, is out now with a UK tour to accompany it, stopping off at LMW on the way. The band has supported UK Indie pioneers, FOALS, meaning that if it’s good enough for crowds of a band that big, then it’s good enough for us.

Featuring Alternative 4 piece, Everything Everything, as well as the likes of Perfume Genius and AJ Tracey this is set to be a birthday bash to remember for years to come.
