Liverpool ONE launches Nature Sessions empowering local children to embrace the great outdoors
1 year ago
Liverpool ONE is giving local children the chance to immerse themselves in nature with the launch of its latest initiative, Nature Sessions.
Liverpool ONE, in conjunction with outdoor learning experts Camp Curiosity, will offer youngsters the opportunity to learn about their local environment, taking part in bug hunts, bird watching and craft-making.
And today (Thursday 30 November), pupils from city centre-based Pagoda Nursery were among the first participants to try out a Nature Session and get stuck into an array of nature related activities with an Autumn/Winter twist.
As part of the launch, the children took part in sessions that included activities such as storytelling, bug hunting and scavenger hunts, sensory exploring, learning through play and community building.
Gemma Hill-Davis, Outdoor Learning Practitioner at Camp Curiosity, said:
“We are so excited to be a part of Liverpool ONE’s Nature Sessions, helping to give children a real understanding of the environment in which they live.
“We believe that every single child, regardless of their background, should have the chance to develop a real connection to nature and build their knowledge of how to make a positive difference to the world around them, so this initiative plays a vital role in making that happen.
“It was fantastic to kick off Nature Sessions today with Pagoda Nursery and we’re looking forward to meeting more youngsters in 2024.”
Nature Sessions forms part of Liverpool ONE’s commitment to the environment, alongside a pledge to help improve the health and wellbeing of local people, especially for young people.
The initiative is part of a wider national effort to improve access to greenspace, aiming to transform the way climate education is taught and to support young people to act and increase biodiversity across England.
Donna Howitt, Place Strategy Director at Liverpool ONE, said:
“We’re proud to announce our partnership with Camp Curiosity as part of our dedication to working with local communities and, importantly, playing our role in encouraging responsible environmental behaviour.
“The children from Pagoda Nursery absolutely loved kickstarting our Nature Sessions and it was amazing to see their reactions to the activities and how they engaged with their surroundings…despite the chilly weather!
“We are proud of Chavasse Park being at the heart of Liverpool ONE and we are thrilled to be able to expand the uses of this green space for such an important initiative.”
