The company was named Block Management Company of the Year at Your Move Liverpool Property and Business Awards 2024 held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The prestigious accolade was presented to Berkeley Shaw by actress Claire Sweeney, who revealed she was one of their happy leaseholders!
Chloe Tong, Head of Marketing for the leading real estate brand, says: âAs she handed us our prize she announced she lived in a property that we manage and said, âthese guys have been unbelievableâ.
âIt was a huge honour and achievement to have won the award â and even better when the person presenting us with it could attest to what we do.â
Chloe adds: âMore than anything, the award confirms that we have the trust of the property owners and the trust of the occupiers of the buildings we look after. That, and reliability, is hugely important to us.â
John Baybut, the Managing Director who leads the team, says: âBeing recognised like this makes me so pleased for our staff and, in particular, our Block Management team.
âWith the backdrop of the Building Safety Act and the additional upskilling and advice we have had to give our freeholders and management clients, our industry is facing big challenges. I think this award recognises and reinforces that we are the ‘go to’ Independent Block Management business in the Liverpool City Region.â
Since it was launched in 1980, but in particular since acquiring Keppie Massie Residential in 2021, Berkeley Shaw has grown to become one of the best-known and respected real estate agents in Liverpool and the surrounding areas.
The group now has six offices and, as well as its work selling millions of pounds worth of property every month, and renting out individual properties, it has become one of the major block management companies for both commercial and residential properties with a billion pounds worth of assets under its management.
Berkeley Shaw Real Estate manages some of Liverpoolâs most iconic residential developments, including impressive sites like Beetham Tower, City Quay, Wapping Quay, Waterloo Warehouse, Park Central and Quay Central, all with a significant presence close to the waterfront. Part of the work of its expert team involves ensuring complex safety and cladding work is carried out â an issue brought to bear by the Grenfell Tower disaster in 2017.
Berkeley Shaw takes its role of protecting the cityâs heritage seriously too. âAs well as making sure any project runs smoothly itâs essential that, managing some of the cityâs well-loved buildings, we look after them and preserve Liverpoolâs heritage.
âThere are so many unique buildings that are special to the city, and we value our role in helping to protect and preserve them,â continues Chloe.
One of those buildings is Waterloo Warehouse, a Grade II Listed building for which Berkeley Shaw is co-ordinating a multi-million-pound refurbishment due to be completed next year.
Restorations began in 2022 with just short of ÂŁ2 million already spent on bringing the building back to its best.
Julie Ward, Berkeley Shawâs Associate Director and property manager for the site, adds: âA project of this size brings with it much planning and organisation but, working with specialists in their field, the project has run smoothly with minimal disturbance to residents.
âItâs been wonderful to see this magnificent building sympathetically repaired and, once complete, we look forward to working on the next project for the iconic Waterloo Warehouse.â
Other major projects that the block management team at Berkeley Shaw have overseen include that at Wapping Quays, another Grade II Listed building that has undergone basement works, and had its lighting, fire alarm system, water tanks and water pumps replaced along with other vital works.
Chloe Tong summarises the year that Berkeley Shawâs Block Management team had in 2024 by saying. âThe team went from strength to strength with a number of âAdded Valueâ projects. It’s wonderful to see from close up, and the team deserve all of the recognition and thanks that they get!â
