The UK Walking Summit is heading to Liverpool in March 2026, shining a light on emerging technologies that are forging new ways for people to move around towns and cities.

Now marking its tenth anniversary, the summit brings together leaders, planners and campaigners who are working to improve streets for people walking and wheeling.

The event will showcase work that’s happening in the region, with a series of ‘walkshops’ for in-person attendees to see changes in action.

Agustina Martire, Reader in Architecture at Queen’s University Belfast will deliver the keynote, exploring ways to create more accessible and inclusive streets.

Agustina will be joined by Simon O’Brien, Walking and Cycling Commissioner for the Liverpool City Region and other experts across transport, technology and health.

Simon O’Brien said:

“It’s a privilege to welcome the UK Walking Summit to our city region. Bringing together policymakers and advocates, walkers and wheelers, to discuss how we’re going to make our streets safer and more accessible for everyone.

“We’re already making great strides here in the region, building active travel infrastructure to link communities, reduce carbon emissions and help our residents live healthier lives – but there’s always more we can do.

“This event is a real opportunity to showcase how transformational it can be when we design our cities and towns around the people who live there.”

Playing host to the UK Walking Summit is just one example of the Combined Authority’s support for active travel across the Liverpool City Region.

To date more than £110m has already been committed to developing new and upgraded walking and cycling infrastructure, as part of Mayor Steve Rotheram’s plan to deliver a 600km network of routes across the six boroughs of the city region – Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral.

Catherine Woodhead, Chief Executive, Living Streets said:

“We are delighted to be heading to Liverpool for our most exciting and ambitious UK Walking Summit yet. From grade II listed parks to coastal paths and historic docks, the city is the perfect place to celebrate walking and wheeling.”

The 2026 UK Walking Summit will take place at St George’s Hall, Liverpool on Wednesday 25 March.

The UK Walking Summit is being hosted by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority with thanks to headline sponsor, AtkinsRéalis.

Tickets are on sale now and available at an early bird rate until 31 December.
