Liverpool Women’s Hospital thank the city for their donations to the #TeamLWH appeal
3 years ago

Liverpool Women’s Hospital has thanked the public and businesses throughout the city for giving its hard-working staff ‘a hug’, with support for its new #TeamLWH Appeal.
John Lewis has donated comfort bags filled with toiletries, Caffe Nero has given tea and coffee and food, Gems At Work have donated 900 Easter Eggs and one LFC player – who wants to remain anonymous – has given a large lump sum to support the Womens’ staff during the Covid-19 crisis.
Kate Davis, Head of Fundraising at Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity, says: “The response has been fantastic.
“It has helped us to boost the morale of our staff who are working so hard in such difficult circumstances and to let them know and feel that they are loved and cared for.
“The support is giving them ‘a hug’. A lot of people felt helpless at not being able to do anything in this situation, but people and businesses can help us support our staff, who work tirelessly seven days a week, and we would love that help to keep coming.”
The ‘TeamLWH Appeal’ was launched on March 26 – at the same time as an internal support scheme – to boost morale and offer practical support at the popular and well-known Women’s Hospital.
Kate says: “The Trust has been working incredibly hard to manage the impact of the coronavirus on everyone who needs our services.
“As you can imagine, things like pregnancy and childbirth pose unique challenges for us, in keeping both mums and babies healthy, as well as protected from this disease.
“Our staff have to be really intimate with patients and that will never change. We will continue to offer the best care to mums and their babies but it puts staff at great risk.”

The Appeal is asking for donations of toiletries, teas and coffees, treats and water, as well as cash, to help support and cheer members of staff both at work and at home.
Adds Kate: “We are using some of the money donated to provide a free breakfast for staff every Thursday morning, and putting together care packages which include treats of coffees, teas and chocolate, and practical things like shower gels and handwashes that are beneficial, and washing powder as they are having to wash their uniforms more often.
“Boots have been great and joined with Fairshare and Hygiene Bank to put together toiletry packs. By looking after their own welfare our staff can continue to make a difference to people’s lives at this difficult time and they appreciate and welcome the gifts and support.”
As well as outside support, the hospital has set up a page called LWH Stars where staff and patients can donate a star to a member of staff – be it a nurse, a doctor, a department or a ward – to say thank you for what they are doing or any specific act of kindness or effort they have shown.
Kate continues: “All NHS staff need to know people are thinking about them. It makes a huge difference and means so much as we have seen with the clapping for the NHS.
“We value the care they give and what they are doing in this very difficult time, and they – and we – would welcome any support people can give.”
