Liverpool’s Girls On The Go create 8 goals for a wellness take on the 75 Hard challenge
10 months ago
Girls On The Go, a community launched in Liverpool to bring women together and end loneliness, has created its own version of the hugely popular 75 Hard challenge.
Girls On The Go 75 will encourage women taking part to make more time dedicated to looking after themselves by following eight simple daily goals.
They will focus on things like keeping a gratitude journal and reading, along with health-related targets, all designed to help everyone feel their best emotionally, physically and mentally.
GOTG 75 will also focus on sustainability, partnering with Arriva which is offering four weeks of free bus travel to all those tackling the challenge.
The aim is that at the end of the 75 days, by having the support of a group to keep focused and motivated, all the goals will have become second nature and a part of everyday life.
Girls On The Go was founded by Stephanie Barney, Caitlin Lewing and Martin Mach in September last year and it’s grown to have an Instagram following of more than 31,000 in just six months.
They launched this latest feel better challenge alongside their regular social and creative events to combine goal-setting with a community.
Steph said:
“We wanted to create a challenge for girls to participate in where we’d provide them with everything they need to succeed. Instead of having something that can be quite intense in terms of workouts and losing weight, we’ve made our own rules so it’s more centred around mental health and just overall improving your physical wellbeing.
“This time of year is when New Year’s resolutions often start to fall off and you become a bit more demotivated so we thought it was good timing. Girls can do the GOTG 75 challenge, feel great by summer and encouraged to continue with those new habits, so it’s like a New Year’s resolution but in March!”
GOTG 75 is made up of eight goals for the community of girls to complete each day:
- Read 10 pages of a book
- Drink 2 litres of water
- Do 8000 steps
- Move your body for 30 minutes
- Listen to one podcast episode
- Journal for 10 minutes
- Save ÂŁ5 a day
- Do one act of sustainability
“They’re the little elements that go together every day that make you feel better about yourself. Even if it’s just five minutes a day, they all add up and hopefully women will keep implementing them in their lives after the challenge,” says Steph.
One of the things that Girls On The Go stresses is there’s no pressure to complete every goal every day.
“These are guidelines of the challenge but we’ll have a What’s App group chat for everyone participating and me and Caitlin will remind them every day that if they don’t achieve all the goals it doesn’t mean they haven’t succeeded.
“We really want to foster the sense that nobody should beat themselves up about it – these are goals, so however many you complete is still an accomplishment.”
GOTG 75 is partnering with other businesses including 92° coffee and skincare company Skin+Me, as well as Arriva.
“The brands we’ve worked with are amazing and they’ve been really keen to get involved which has been brilliant,” adds Steph.
“We’ve kept the first challenge to 50 because we felt that was the right number to allow the girls to connect with each other and form friendships. We didn’t want too many because then it could be a bit overwhelming.
“But for those who don’t want to be one of the 50 who get the goodies, they can still participate and follow the eight goals on their own account.
“We want to do this as often as possible and keep making it bigger and better every time. Women often don’t dedicate enough time to just looking after themselves and that’s what we really want to encourage.”
