Liverpool’s Winter Arts Market is back at the stunning Liverpool Cathedral
7 years ago
The North West’s biggest arts, craft and design market returns on Saturday 2 December 2017.
Taking place in the Grade I listed Liverpool Cathedral, local arts organisation Open Culture stages a huge independent Christmas shopping experience like no other.
With stalls from over 200 curated artists, designers and makers selling original handmade work, the Winter Arts Market features thousands of items for Christmas shoppers to peruse and purchase; everything from photography, ceramics and jewellery, to screen-prints, festive decorations, cards, clothing, photography, woodwork, glassware, textiles and handmade beauty products.Â
Director of Open Culture, Christina Grogan, commented “This will be our ninth Winter Arts Market and we’re so happy to present the public with an alternative shopping experience this Christmas. We’ve hand selected over 200 of the best artists, makers, food producers and vintage traders in the region. What we love about the markets is that they’re not only a way for the public to buy amazing and unique gifts for their friends and family but also a means for those artists to promote and platform their work and connect with potential clients and other creatives’.
Alongside the arts and crafts offer, the Winter Arts Market also features a whole vintage basement packed to the rafters with treasures galore including clothing, jewellery, homewares, books and vinyl from some of Liverpool’s best-known vintage sellers.
Next to the Vintage basement shoppers will also find a dedicated food fair, featuring delicious food and drink including handcrafted chocolate, fruit liqueurs, beer, port, blended teas, jams, cake and much more.
The Super Silly Scientists of KECS Creative are also back, with surprises up their sleeves for both kids and those who are simply young at heart! Catch them from 11am – 4pm for tons of Christmas crafting fun.
All that is enough to make even the most hardened of festive shoppers peckish, so the Cathedral’s Welsford CafĂ© will be open all day serving a BBQ and other refreshments – including the obligatory mulled wine!
The Winter Arts Market, which has taken place annually since 2009, is organised by Liverpool social enterprise Open Culture. The aim of the market, and its sister event the Summer Arts Market, is to provide local artists and crafters with a platform to sell their work directly to the public, and to provide the public with the opportunity to buy truly unique work while supporting independent businesses in the local creative economy.
The 2018 Summer Arts Market will take place at Liverpool Cathedral on Saturday 2 June, under 16’s go free.
