Local Music Spotlight: The Ambition

2015 was a big year for Liverpool four piece band, The Ambition. This year is set to be even bigger so we have put them in our local music spotlight and grilled them with our 7 super quick questions about their formation, their catchy music and of course, all things Liverpool.
Tell us about The Ambition and describe your music:
Tipped by the industry to be the next big thing, The Ambition is made up of Jack Morton, Ant Brady and Scott + Max Mealey. The Liverpool based four piece exploded online in 2014 and have established a hardcore fan base which is growing at an incredible rate. The Ambition have already made an impact on the main stages of some of the UK’s most prestigious events and festivals. Performing their high energy pop rock sets and appearing at shows alongside the likes of Scouting For Girls, Rebecca Ferguson and Basement Jaxx. Showing no signs of slowing down and setting up camp in the studio working on their next EP, 2016 is set to be an exciting year for The Ambition.
How did you get together?
It began when Jack, Max And Scott met at a local talent show competing against each other when the lads were still in school. From then the boys became friends and discovered they all share a huge passion for music. After going to college, Max and Scott discovered Ant in the music department and persuaded him to come and have a practise with the band. From day one Jack, Max, Scott And Ant all connected and started to practise, write songs and record frequently becoming close as a four piece. Fast forward two years and The Ambition is stronger than ever after touring the country and putting on a string of sell out shows within the city…
Liverpool is now an official ‘City of Music’ – What makes the city so special when it comes to music?
Liverpool has such an amazing history of bands/artists who have went on to have amazing careers and perform at the top level in the music industry. Because of artists such as The Beatles, The La’s, The Coral to name but a few, its 100% inspired a lot, if not all of Liverpool music today. We think Liverpool has an amazing scene from the music, the venues, the studios, the promoters, the local radio/media which all come in to play when creating a scene that everyone can perform and feel confident in. Liverpool is such a warming city and it just goes to show when looking at some of the city festivals, for example the yearly Liverpool International Music Festival which welcomes up and coming acts from around the city as well as acts from all over the world. We are so proud to say we’re from Liverpool!
What is your favourite live music venue in the city?
This is a tough one because there are so many! We’re going to have to say The Epstein Theatre were we held our sell out EP launch in 2015. The Epstein is a beautiful venue at the heart of the city with an amazing history behind it.
Where do you like to party in Liverpool?
At the minute we’re loving Turtle Bay bar! We went to the opening night and really loved the vibe of the place! When we’re not playing shows ourselves or in the studio, we also like to visit some of the city’s open mic nights to support other local musicians and maybe even test the water on some new original music…
Who is your favourite Liverpool musician of all time, no Beatles allowed?
Again, this is a tough one because there are so many great musicians who have come from Liverpool (+ we really like The Beatles!) We’re going to have to say either The La’s Or The Coral (sorry we couldn’t choose one.) Both bands have gone on to perform at huge stages all over the world and have created songs that we listened too when starting out. We used to cover “In The Morning” by The Coral and of course “There She Goes” by The La’s, so we really look up to both bands. We’d love to replicate the success both of them have had and hopefully represent the city on the world stage just like they did.
What does 2016 have in store for The Ambition?
We feel this year is going to be huge for us. After ending 2015 on a high with viral videos, tours in London and receiving interested off the national press, we’re hoping to carry the momentum in to 2016 with a bang. Already we’ve got some amazing things in the pipeline which will all be revealed very soon but now we’re back in the studio working on some of the best material we’ve ever wrote! All of us really want to take things up a level this year after ticking off so many goals we created in 2015. Expect bigger shows, more music and lots of juicy things that we’re sure will get the party started…
