Local musician Låpsley launches new National Museums Liverpool music series

Museum Sessions premieres on YouTube this month, with an exclusive online performance from Låpsley

National Museums Liverpool (NML) is platforming musicians from across the Liverpool City Region in Museum Sessions, a new online series premiering with an atmospheric performance from Låpsley available on YouTube from 16 March.

Showcasing National Museums Liverpool’s incredible venues and promoting local talent, Museum Sessions will platform five musicians performing in some of NML’s most instantly recognisable spaces – from sessions amongst deep sea creatures and dinosaurs at World Museum, to world renowned sculpture at Walker Art Gallery.

The series premieres with a performance by Låpsley in the ethereal surroundings of the aquarium at World Museum. Born Holly Fletcher, Låpsley started producing her own music at 17 years old with her 2016 debut album Long Way Home garnering widespread praise across the globe. Her latest album, Through Water, was released in 2020.

Upcoming performances come from artists representing a rich mix of talent from across the Liverpool City Region. Following Låpsley’s premiere performance, Remée takes over on 30 March with a set from the Natural World gallery of World Museum, MC Nelson and IamKyami make Walker Art Gallery their stage on 13 April and 27 April respectively, with a closing performance from Pizzagirl premiering online on 11 May.

Låpsley said:

“Reimagining areas within NML’s museums and galleries brings them a new, creative lease of life, and opens up the doors to the world through the wide reach of the internet. I am very proud of my home city and these spaces are very much a part of my educational upbringing. It was such a beautiful experience to perform within World Museum – I felt at peace performing a track from my album Through Water in the aquarium.”

Scott Smith, Head of Digital at National Museums Liverpool, said:

“Music is ingrained in the history of Liverpool, and it continues to pulse through the city today. There are so many incredible, talented artists coming up, and we’re excited to have the opportunity to work with some of them for Museum Sessions.”

Museum Sessions, along with the upcoming new series of the National Museums Liverpool Podcast, represent an exciting new chapter in the online offer of NML – shifting ways in which the public can interact with us and giving people new perspectives on what we do.”

Tune in from 3pm on 16 March to enjoy Låpsley’s performance of her song Our Love is a Garden at World Museum aquarium, premiering exclusively on the National Museums Liverpool YouTube channel.
