Look at the New Brighton mural which recognises RNLI volunteer
4 years ago
The latest piece of street art in New Brighton pays tribute to volunteer crew member Mike Jones who was recognised today for his 40 years service with the RNLI in the form of a giant mural.
Local regeneration company Rockpoint Leisure commissioned the portrait, which has been painted on the gable end of a house on Virginia Street, New Brighton by renowned street artist Smug One and has been entitled ‘Unsung Heroes’
The unveiling ceremony was attended by crew members, family members and other members of the public and was also featured on Granada Reports with Paul Crone covering the story.
Ian Thornton, Lifeboat Operations Manager, New Brighton Lifeboat said;
‘This is a fantastic and fitting tribute to an amazing person who has volunteered for forty years with the RNLI. Due to the location of the mural, Mike will always be looking out to sea to keep an eye on what’s going on’
The new-look New Brighton isn’t just a buzzy place for bars and restaurants, it’s become a centre of street art too.
Rockpoint Leisure has commissioned works from local and international street artists which can be found around the town’s Victoria Quarter.
Another addition is an absolute head-turner – a giant balloon art mural by Fanakapan that’s got to be seen to be believed.
