Matalan launches Bing t-shirt to support NSPCC

Families across the UK can support the NSPCC with a limited-edition Bing t-shirt available at Matalan stores and online.

The NSPCC is delighted to be partnering with Matalan and Acamar Films ahead of Childhood Day on Friday 7th June 2024, to release the special t-shirt featuring the beloved pre-school children’s character.

Matalan is donating 100% of profits towards supporting vital NSPCC services.

£4 pays for one of Childline’s trained volunteer counsellors to answer a child’s call for help to Childline and £5 covers the cost of answering one call to the NSPCC Helpline.

In 2022/23 Childline volunteers delivered almost 200,000 counselling sessions to children and young people across the UK and Channel Islands.

The limited-edition Bing character t-shirt will be available in Matalan stores and online at matalan.co.uk from Wednesday 5th June, in sizes 1-5 years and priced from £6.

Matalan has worked in partnership with children’s charity NSPCC since 2004, already raising over £11 million for the charity through various fundraising events.

NSPCC Regional Corporate Partnership Fundraiser, Paula Marshall, said:

“Bing is such a beloved character on children’s television, and we’re delighted to see him on this brilliant t-shirt.

“The support of Matalan and Acamar in sharing this limited-edition shirt for Childhood Day this year is hugely important, as funds raised will help NSPCC services like Childline across the country.

“On average, a child contacts our Childline service every 45 seconds, and while that’s completely free to the child who needs support, it costs £4 for our counsellors to pick up and offer their help to children whenever they need it.

“We’re hugely grateful to Matalan, Acamar, Bing and everyone who will be taking part in Childhood Day this year. Whether you’re able to buy one of these great t-shirts, fundraise, donate or volunteer to help this Childhood Day, it all makes a difference and helps us help children in Merseyside and across the UK.”

Jo Whitfield, CEO of Matalan said:

“Today, in partnership with the NSPCC and Acamar Films, we are delighted to be launching the Bing t-shirt ahead of Childhood Day on 7th June. Here at Matalan, we are incredibly proud of our longstanding relationship with the NSPCC over the last 20 years and we are extremely grateful to all our customers who continue to support and help raise vital funds for this fantastic cause.”

Katie Rollings, Chief Licensing Officer, Acamar Films, who produce Bing, said:

“Bing stories provide developmental tools to equip young children in getting ready for life. Childhood Day is an incredible way to come together and celebrate childhood and we are thrilled to have Bing a part of this initiative with Matalan and the NSPCC which will help make a difference in children’s lives across the UK.”
