Meet the independents as Larton Livery celebrates 50 years
6 hours ago

Tucked away in the village of Frankby, Larton Livery has been a countryside gem on the Wirral for half a century.
Larton Livery is home to a whole community of independent businesses that make it the perfect place for animal lovers, families and anyone who loves a bit of fresh air and local charm.
It all started back in 1975 when William Titley bought a piece of land with the dream of building a family home surrounded by green fields. Since then, Larton has grown into a hidden village full of friendly faces, small businesses and plenty to see and do.
Head down the little track into Larton Livery and you’ll spot the fishery first. Larton Coarse Fishing has five beautiful ponds stocked with carp, bream, tench, rudd and roach — it’s a lovely place to spend a few peaceful hours and memberships are great value too.

If you’ve got pets, the pet food superstore has you covered. From food and toys to livestock supplies, it’s got everything for dogs, cats, horses, fish, birds and more. Just across the way you’ll find Lookin’ Pawgeous, a dog salon where your pooch can get a proper pamper while you explore the rest of Larton.
It’s not just the dogs who get a treat here — Amanda B’s Hair Hub is a cosy little salon in a hut that’s built a loyal following over 35 years. Amanda looks after ladies, gents and kids, and people travel from miles around for her warm welcome and great cuts.

If your four-legged friend needs somewhere special to stay while you’re away, Larton Pet Resorts offers five star boarding. They’ve got comfy spaces, plenty of outdoor exercise and loads of love from a team who really know their stuff.
Larton is also home to Jackson’s Animal Rescue, an RSPCA approved centre caring for hedgehogs and small mammals. The team here look after hundreds of animals at a time and their dedicated staff and volunteers give each one the care they need.
For those tough times when pets pass away, Larton Lakes Pet Crematorium helps families say goodbye with dignity. They offer individual pet cremations and beautiful ornamental caskets to help remember much-loved companions.
If you’re into horse riding, Larton Riding School is a friendly place to learn or brush up on your skills. The instructors are experienced, the horses are well-schooled and the facilities are great. You can book private lessons, group sessions, stable days, birthday parties or rides through Royden Park — and if you mention La Vida when booking your first lesson you’ll get £5 off.

Next door is Colberry Saddlery, run by Claire Huyton. She’s a classically trained BHSAI with experience in British Eventing and Dressage, so whether you need kit for the yard or the competition arena, you’ll find good advice and quality gear here.
Larton is full of surprises — there’s even a karate dojo. Shinzato Dojo is run by Sensei Steve Gouldson and offers classes for all ages and levels, with a team of experienced black belts on hand to help students learn.
If Pilates is more your thing, Reform Pilates runs mat and reformer classes and one-to-ones in a lovely calm space. It’s ideal if you’re recovering from injury, working on your core strength or just want to move more.

For gardeners, Larton in Bloom is full of colourful flowers for home or garden. The team will even help you put together a bouquet while you wait.
If you fancy a rummage for your home, Brand Designs is an Aladdin’s cave of vintage finds and unique homeware — from cushions and lighting to statement furniture and quirky art.
And with energy bills still a hot topic, Peninsula Solar can help you make the switch to solar. Simon’s been helping families across the North West save money with solar panels and battery storage, sometimes cutting bills altogether.
After all that exploring you’ll want to refuel and Baked Cafe is the place to do it. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, coffee and cakes — it’s all freshly made and served up in a relaxed countryside setting.

As Larton Livery turns 50, its little community of independents keeps thriving and welcoming new faces. If you haven’t visited yet, now’s the perfect time to see what’s tucked away down that country track — it’s a real slice of rural Wirral that’s well worth discovering.
