Merseymade calls on Christmas shoppers to support local in Liverpool
4 years ago
MerseyMade has fast become a Liverpool favourite and is now the home to the city’s creatives.
The team at Merseymade are urging shoppers to do so locally ahead of Christmas, speaking on behalf of independents across Liverpool, Wirral and the surrounding areas.
Celebrating its first business anniversary this November, MerseyMade works with more than 100 North West makers, artists and suppliers and is urging the public to join the quest to support local.
Located in the heart of Liverpool city centre, the venue houses artistsâ studios, an events space, and retail shop alongside the Gordon Smith CafĂ© led by chef Yasmin Limbert. The cafĂ© is currently selling MerseyMadeâs âMeals at Homeâ, which include delicious homemade dishes and treat boxes, and will soon be introducing its very own MerseyMade Christmas Puddings.
Founder of MerseyMade Vicky Gawith said:
âMerseyMade has now been open for a little over 12 months, but it hasnât been quite as planned as weâve had to contend with so many challenges particularly around Covid-19. Although itâs not been the opening year that we anticipated, we believe that 2020 has highlighted just how resilient the independent business community is across the Merseyside region. Itâs meant that weâve had to be reactive and adaptable; itâs so important to us to keep going in the face of adversity. By supporting neighbouring businesses, weâre able to safeguard peopleâs livelihoods and help to build our local economy back up, which is more important than ever.â
Did you know @MerseymadeUK have an online store that has 100s of products from local suppliers for sale? ??

Creative & Retail Manager at MerseyMade Jenny Dunlop said:
âCustomers that have visited us will already know that we have a huge range of handcrafted and creative products available to buy, from artwork and jewellery, to local gins and childrenâs crafts. Alongside the retail element, our studio spaces are full and we have 10 artists working here, creating and selling their bespoke works of art. At what would be our busiest time of year, weâve unfortunately had to shut our doors again, but weâre very much still here, and will continue to champion our artists, makers and creators.
âWe have recently launched our new online store, that allows customers to browse and purchase the same products that they would find in our shop with local and global delivery options available as well as a collection service. Weâve been overwhelmed by the publicâs support and we can really see a change in the way that people are shopping and spending their money in light of recent events, but we need to remind everyone that buying local goes a long way and with Christmas coming up, our message is donât stop now.â

Housed within The Gordon Smith Institute for Seamen, the building itself has an eclectic history, dating back to 1900. With it being 120 years old at the end of November, Vicky and her team are passionate about continuing the legacy of the historic landmark through MerseyMade but need the publicâs support.
Vicky added: âItâs a privilege to be able to work within such a significant building that holds so much history, and we want MerseyMade to become part of its heritage. To do that, we must carry on in these difficult times and make the most of the opportunities that come our way. Our online ordering system allows us to continue showcasing the work of some of the regionâs most talented individuals and offers our customers a chance to purchase gifts that are meaningful, memorable and personal.
âThis year, weâre excited to launch our Christmas Hampers with the option to choose pre-made bundles or create your own for the ultimate tailored gift. Whether youâre buying for your friends or loved ones, an interiors fanatic or an art enthusiast, we have something for everyone â all sourced from within 50 miles of our Liverpool shop. Everything is easily accessible on our website and shoppers will have the choice to add one of our hamper baskets for the full package.
âWe believe that we, alongside so many other local businesses, offer a special service that really goes above and beyond. Shopping local not only helps to keep these fantastic businesses alive but it also means that buyers can enjoy a unique shopping experience with gifts that are made with love, care and consideration. Once we can safely open again, we hope to diversify our range of onsite events and look forward to launching MerseyMade Kitchen Takeover Nights and Supper Clubs alongside shopping evenings and workshops.â
Christmas Hampers at MerseyMade start from ÂŁ35.
MerseyMadeâs âMeals At Homeâ are also available to purchase online for collection or delivery.
