Merseyrail have confirmed changes to their timetable on Wednesday for fans attending the Everton FC vs Mansfield Town match at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Sandhills station will be the primary rail stop for supporters, with a 15-minute walk to the stadium. A new second entrance and pedestrian footbridge at the station are now open, improving access and passenger flow.
To support increased demand, Merseyrail will operate a 15-minute timetable before the match and after the final whistle on the Southport, Ormskirk, Hunts Cross, and Headbolt Lane lines. Temporary timetable changes will apply to Liverpool-bound services on the Southport line between 17:30 and 22:30.
Moorfields (Old Hall Street exit), James Street (Water Street exit), and Bank Hall stations are also within a 30-minute walk of the ground for use by customers wishing to avoid queues and busy services.
A dedicated fan management zone will be in place at Sandhills to help manage queues and ensure a safe, smooth experience for all passengers.
Suzanne Grant, Deputy Managing Director at Merseyrail, said:
“We’re proud to support Everton FC and its fans as they settle into their new home at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Our teams have worked hard to ensure that travel to and from the match is as smooth and safe as possible. With additional services, improved station access, and a dedicated fan management zone at Sandhills, we’re confident supporters will have a positive journey experience. We encourage everyone to plan ahead, allow extra time, and follow the guidance of our staff on the day.”
Sandhills station offers step-free access, and Everton FC will operate an Accessible Shuttle Service between the station and Boundary Street, just 175 metres from the stadium. The shuttle will run from three hours before kick-off and continue post-match. It must be booked in advance and will not be available on a ‘turn up and go’ basis.
