Merseyside father and son gear up for a penny farthing charity ride in memory of family friend
5 days ago

A Merseyside dad and his teenage son are set to take on this summer’s Liverpool Chester Liverpool bike Ride.
Formby’s Glynn Stockton, 47, and his 13-year-old son Felix are raising money for North-West Cancer Research as they ride the historic LCL route together, with Glynn tackling it on none other than a Penny Farthing!
The big day takes place on Sunday 6 July 2025, and with five routes ranging from 5 to 100 miles, it’s open to riders of all ages and abilities. Glynn and Felix will be taking on the 25-mile challenge together, a first for Felix and a proud moment for his dad.

“Felix has been riding since he was three,” says Glynn. “He absolutely loves it – and yes, he even has his own little Penny Farthing! He’s already raised over £400, and seeing the donations come in has really boosted his motivation. I couldn’t be prouder.”
The ride is in memory of Matt Olson, a close family friend and much-loved member of their extended circle, who sadly passed away in 2024 after being diagnosed with a brain tumour at just 42.
North-West Cancer Research, the regional charity behind the event, is focused on improving cancer outcomes right here in the North West and North Wales. And this year, they’re bringing the LCL ride back bigger and better after it was cancelled in 2024, with Glynn’s Penny Farthing setting the tone for a truly special return.

CEO Alastair Richards said:
“We’re thrilled to see people like Glynn and Felix taking part. This ride is about more than just miles, it’s about community, remembrance, and pushing for a cancer-free future.”
