Merseyside Police issues an appeal for information after a brutal attack leaves a 16 year old with sustained cuts.
Merseyside Police has issued CCTV stills of a number of males police believe could have information which would assist an investigation into an assault in Formby. A report was received that a teenage boy was assaulted on Formby beach on Tuesday, 23rd July 2019.
It was reported shortly after 4.10pm that a group of around 10 male youths had assaulted another group which included the 16-year-old victim, and some of the offenders allegedly used sticks or bats during the incident.
The boy sustained cuts to the head and has subsequently made a formal complaint of assault. The offenders were reported to have dispersed into the sand dunes before the attendance of police officers. The victim subsequently attended hospital for assessment and was later discharged.
Detective Inspector Catherine Walsh said: “We are hoping to get a good response to our further appeal as this was a shocking incident on a teenage boy who should be able to go to the beach without fear of being assaulted.
“This happened on one of the hottest days of the year and there were many people there enjoying the sunshine so someone must have seen something.
“We believe members of the public who witnessed the offence itself have not yet come forward and we would appeal to them to help us in our investigation.
“If you have any information at all about the incident, do the right thing and help us bring the offenders to justice by contacting police.”
