Metquarter to host new pop up museum about history of Merseyside Police

Metquarter has welcomed a unique pop up museum about the history of Merseyside Police.

The Merseyside Police Museum will open to the public on the ground floor of the centre from Tuesday 7 April 2026 for a six week period. The museum will be open Monday – Wednesday, from 10am to 4pm, offering visitors an immersive insight into the history of policing over the years.

The free museum will showcase the evolution of police memoriablia spanning from the pre World War I era to the present day. Designed as an engaging and educational experience for visitors of all ages, the museum features historic uniforms as well as police equipment including batons and handcuffs.

An interactive custody desk will provide visitors with a hands-on opportunity to explore the inner workings of a booking-in process and gain insights into day to day policing procedures.

The museum will be staffed by knowledgable volunteers, who will be on hand to share their expertise and provide deeper context to the items on display.

Sgt Paul Shelley (Merseyside Police) said:

“We are proud to bring this pop-up museum to the heart of Liverpool, giving our communities the chance to explore more than a century of policing history. Our heritage is an important part of who we are, and this exhibition offers a unique opportunity to see how policing has evolved while also celebrating the people who have served Merseyside over the years. We hope visitors of all ages will enjoy the experience and gain a deeper understanding of the role policing plays in keeping our communities safe.”

Jennina O’Neill, Metquarter Centre Manager said:

“We’re delighted to welcome the Merseyside Police Museum to the scheme for this unique six week pop up. At Metquarter, we’re always looking for ways to offer something different, and this exhibition not only provides a fascinating insight into the evolution of policing, but also creates an educational experience that can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages.
