Moonlight Flicks is back at Claremont Farm on the Wirral for another summer of outdoor movie magic.

The farm favourite is one of only two north west venues hosting Storyhouse’s popular Open Air Cinema series as it prepares to get the reels going once again.

The Old Clatterbridge Road farm will be showing blockbusters like Dirty Dancing, Mamma Mia, Pretty Woman and True Romance from Friday, July 18.

And tickets are already on sale for the annual outdoor event which, although it missed a year last year, is a favourite fixture in the farm’s calendar.

Andrew Pimbley, from the ever-busy Claremont Farm, says:

“It’s incredible.

“Tickets are already selling well and we are made up that it’s back again at Claremont.

“The last two years have been horrific for all businesses, whether it’s been wages or electricity, or inflation, or whatever … it’s been the worse two years possible. And we were overjoyed when they said they wanted to come back.

“We were worried that they wouldn’t because things change, but they really wanted to do it again here and we were made up to be quite honest.”

Andrew remembers vividly the first Moonlight Flicks event that was held just after Covid: “It was the most memorable event because everybody was singing, and it was quite moving to see everyone able to come back, apart but together, and see that communal thing.  It was emotional.”

But he says it’s always a special event.

“We have got the films that are the favourites, the classics and the singalongs that you know you’re going to get the big groups to, and it’s brilliant.

“People come back year after year and it’s a real occasion. They get dressed up, they know the words, and we just can’t wait for that. We love it and it’s one of our favourite events.

“It’s fantastic to see people coming together and when they’ve got headsets on, you can’t hear the film but you can hear them, singing. And it’s a great spectacle. You have all the twinkly lights, the view of the field, and it is just magical.”

Visitors will be able to choose from a collection of seven films.

The full line-up at Claremont Farm is:

Friday, July 18 – Dirty Dancing

Friday, July 25 – Grease

Friday, August 1 – The Greatest Showman

Friday, August 8 – Mamma Mia!

Friday, August 15 – True Romance

Friday, August 22 – Pretty Woman

Monday, August 25 – Paddington in Peru

There’ll be a couple of bars, Andrew says, as well as food available, with pizzas from the Dough Bros, and nachos from Andrew and Claremont Farm.

“With a capacity of around 200, the Moonlight Flicks do get booked up fairly quickly, but it’s a great event so people need to get a move on.”

* Adult tickets are £10.80 for Storyhouse members and £12 for non-members (plus booking fee), and  £8 for members under 16 and £9 for non-members under 16.
