Movema bring Brazilian dance pioneer to Liverpool for first ever visit
7 years ago
Movema are very pleased to announce a masterclass with Rosangela Silvestre on Monday 21st May at Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts.
The internationally renowned Brazilian dancer, choreographer and teacher will visit Liverpool for the first time ever, to deliver an evening of powerful movement with live music from master drummer Alysson Bruno as part of their UK tour 2018.
Rosangela is a Choreographer, dancer and creator of the Silvestre Dance Technique. A native of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, she has taught and performed internationally including in the USA, Cuba and across Europe as well as running her own dance school in Brazil, which receives hundreds of international students every year eager to learn this exciting style.
This traditional Afro-Brazilian movement form is exciting and energetic and involves elements of drama, with dancers representing the Orixas. Orixas are Afro-Brazilian gods and goddesses, each with their own distinctive movements based on their characters, such as Oxóssi the archer, Iemanja the mermaid and Ogun the warrior.
Movema Director Maria, who trained in Brazilian dance in Rosangela’s home city says; “This is an amazing opportunity for our dancers and for dance enthusiasts in the city. In the workshop Rosangela will share with us her Orixa Movement in an open, creative way, creating a fantastic opportunity to dive deep into movement and your own unique expression. We are really looking forward to meeting new dancers who are interested in working with us in this style.”
The masterclass suitable for dance enthusiasts from all styles and movement backgrounds including beginners. Early-bird tickets are available from Movema’s Facebook page and Eventbrite for £20/£16 concessions, more after May 1st.
