Movema to celebrate Chinese New Year with a dance extravaganza
5 years ago
Liverpool dance company, Movema are working hard this Chinese New Year with three dance groups to bring together a Chinese dance extravaganza.
The first involves their youth programme ‘Unlock the Box’ as they work with children from Hillside Community Centre, Edge Hill Community Centre, and Garston Adventure play group, who are rehearsing with special silk fans, ribbons, and Thai Chi inspired moves.
The second group is an adult community group, who will be performing a dance piece based on stories of the local communities who moved from another country before settling in Liverpool and making it their home. This performance will focus on the support and care they have received during their journey by celebrating diversity and rich cultures.
The third dance group are a professional dance collective, creating a Chinese Fusion piece that mixes Chinese folk dance and contemporary dance.
Movema are looking for individuals to join in and dance.
There are still opportunities for people to join both the adult community and professional elements of the show:
-The community group is open for all people no matter of experience & background. Rehearsals are every Wednesday 6-7pm @ Lipa, room 502.
-To join the professional piece, Movema are inviting people with a minimum of 2 years post training dance experience, providing an opportunity to learn traditional Chinese styles.
