New courtroom drama that puts Scousers in the jury hot seat

A brand-new immersive court drama is set to take live theatre to a whole new level in Liverpool.

In The Jury Experience, coming to the Playhouse Theatre this month, audience members are invited to become part of a high-stakes trial that producers say will ‘challenge their beliefs about guilt, innocence, and the true meaning of justice’.

Because they are the ones who will be the jury!

The audience gets to analyse witness testimonies, cross-examinations, and forensic evidence in the search for the truth, before casting their votes to decide the fate of the accused. So whether justice is served is down to them.

The Jury Experience is a new creative event from global entertainment platform Fever in which a live courtroom drama is played out in front of, and with, the audience.

Anderson Lawfer, Fever’s creative director for The Jury Experience, explains:

“This show is exciting for a couple of reasons.

“The first is that it changes based on the votes made by the jury (the audience) throughout the performance. Evidence becomes admissible, statements are included or excluded, and a verdict is given. That means every experience is different, and all shaped by the jury.

“But the second reason,” he adds, “and the part that really blows my mind, is that it’s happening everywhere. On the same day, you could have people in São Paulo, Paris, New York, Tampa, Mexico City, Turin, and so many other cities, all taking part in the same experience. That’s wild.

The Jury Experience

“It feels like a global statement about what theatre can be. And with new cases being created by artists from all over the world, it’s only going to keep growing. It’s kind of becoming its own little cultural moment.”

The Jury Experience first launched at the beginning of April in five cities – Madrid, Dublin, New York, Toronto, and Chicago – and is now being performed in around 30.

It comes to the Liverpool Playhouse on Saturday, June 14, and Anderson says he can’t wait to see how the city reacts.

“Liverpool is such a vibrant cultural and entertainment hub in the UK that we couldn’t imagine launching The Jury Experience without bringing it to this iconic city.

“Its rich history, dynamic arts scene, and engaged audiences make it the perfect backdrop for an immersive show like this. We’re genuinely excited to see how Liverpool embraces it.”

The Jury Experience

Live actors play various characters in The Jury Experience which then asks the audience to weigh up each argument, unpack the facts, and dissect testimonies.

It’s then faced with delivering a verdict which will either ‘free’ the accused or find them guilty.

Anderson continues:

“Audiences love The Jury Experience because there’s truly nothing else like it.

“It’s immersive, interactive, and gives people the rare opportunity to step into the role of a juror and experience justice from the inside. They love the thrill of being part of the action, the drama of the courtroom, and the power of deciding the outcome – it’s thought-provoking and thoroughly entertaining.”
