New dates added to the outdoor Romeo & Juliet shows this Summer in Liverpool’s parks

It’s 1783, hot air balloons are the only way to travel, Carnevale is a way of life and love is a dirty word. A rebellious girl and a sensitive boy dream of escape from patriarchy and feuding families, in fair Verona where we lay our scene.

A multi award-winning theatre company will be touring an exciting new production of Romeo and Juliet around Merseyside’s parks and gardens this summer for a tour that promises to be an indulgent feast for the senses.

Prescot-based Imaginarium Theatre will present Shakespeare’s greatest love story throughout the summer, featuring pulsing carnival rhythms merging with Italian Opera, explosive fight choreography, thrilling fire dancing, masks and spectacle, and of course a pair of star crossed lovers destined for tragically violent ends.

The summer tour will take in a host of outdoor locations across Merseyside, including Reynolds Park in Woolton, Ness Gardens, Crosby Hall, Sudley House, and many more.

Imaginarium is a theatre and community arts organisation based in Cockpit House in Prescot, Knowsley, established in 2000 as Merseyside Arts Theatre and Education (MATE Productions), led by Artistic Director Gaynor La Rocca and a dynamic team of creative professionals.

Artistic Director and CEO of Imaginarium, Gaynor La Rocca said “We are delighted to be once again working in partnership with the Shakespeare North Trust, Arts Council England and the Royal Shakespeare Company as we re-launch as Imaginarium Theatre UK.

Over 100 community performers and volunteers have been involved in the creative process, and the accompanying schools Arts Awards programme ‘Violent Ends’ will engage a further 6000 young people exploring issues surrounding knife crime, choice and consequence.”

Audiences are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy Shakespeare’s greatest romance in the sunshine or under the stars; whatever you prefer.
