This July, writer Jonathan Harvey is back at Liverpool’s Royal Court with a hilarious new show and summer blockbuster. Sisters of Mersey opens on Friday 5 July until 3 August.
Meet Sister Petra and Sister Fionola (Lindzi Germain and Keddy Sutton) who have grown up as identical twins at St Elmo’s Convent in Dingle. But Monsignor Michael has some shocking news for them, they’re not twins at all!
The Sisters decide to change the habit of a lifetime and escape from the convent to discover what happened to their real families. When they get out into 1980s Liverpool they find themselves locked into a battle with a wicked gangster, trapped in an improbable heist and trying to pinch a nudey statue to fill a gaping hole in the Monsignor’s apse.
Writer Jonathan Harvey (A Thong For Europe) is back at the Royal Court Theatre with another riotous comedy featuring some classic 80s bangers. Sisters of Mersey is directed by Stephen Fletcher and designed by Mark Walters.
Musical Supervisor and Arranger is George Francis, Musical Director James Breckon, Lighting Design by Ian Scott, Sound Design by Kate Harvey and AV Designer Jamie Jenkin.
Harvey said:
“I am thrilled to be back at the Royal Court. Whoever came up with having your tea before curtain up and then your pudding in the interval is a genius. I had such a scream last year and it’s great to be reunited with some of the team again for what we hope will be another riot… Sisters of Mersey. There’s no audience quite like a Royal Court audience.”
