The Romans Market, located on the site of Merseyside Police Sports & Social Club by the Sitting Bull statue on Otterspool Promenade, is to open a new local craft and market
The Roman Market, themed as an alternative to modern day shopping both on and offline, will aim to transport people to the atmosphere, sights and sounds of ancient Roman markets.Â
30 local traders will be offering art, upcycled furnishings, candles, donuts, home decor, condiments, flowers, clothes, books, dog cakes, beauty products and much more.Â
Customers will also be able to enjoy an array of delicious street food, via table service, from local vendors as they browse all the market has to offer.Â
Joe Clarke, founder of The Romans says:
“With a unique and immense open air site overlooking the River Mersey, we decided to create a new market to support local independent businesses and bring back the old fashioned values of trading face to face and to nurture community spirit”
Traders include Knotty Potty, maker of unusually decorated terracotta pots, ‘It’s all about the dog’ which creates stunning and healthy homemade treats for dogs and Fermentation Station, which use the seasonal fermentation process to create delicious condiments.Â
The youngest trader, Sophia Cullen at just 17 years of age, is showcasing her passion for literature on the âBooks & Bugsâ stall.Â
Social distancing will be in place for customers via a one way stall system and outdoor seating will be available for people to enjoy delicious street food, coffees and home made cakes, whilst enjoying live acoustic sounds from local musicians.
The venue is part of Merseyside Police Sports & Social Association (MPSSA), located by the Sitting Bull Statue on Otterspool promenade and offers unparalleled views and sunsets over the River Mersey.Â
A spokesperson for MPSSA says âWe are delighted to be working with The Romans to host such a unique event and support local Merseyside businesses.â
The market will be open on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd May between 10am and 4pm and customers can register on arrival or online for a chance to win ÂŁ100 worth of vouchers to be spent on the market stalls.
