New season of shows announced at Liverpool Playhouse

An exciting new season has been announced at Liverpool Playhouse, featuring a mix of theatre, dance, and family favourites.

Under the direction of Nathan Powell, who takes the helm as Creative Director, the new programme at Liverpool Playhouse promises bold, engaging performances to delight Liverpool audiences.

Nathan Powell, Creative Director of Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse Theatres, said:

We’re bringing even more variety to our programme—whether you’re a dance fan, a theatre lover, or looking for a family-friendly show. The Playhouse is the perfect space for bold, intimate performances, and we can’t wait to share these productions with Liverpool audiences.”

Frantic Assembly makes a welcome return to the Playhouse with its 30th Anniversary production Lost Atoms, running from Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 October. Written by Anna Jordan, the production will be directed by Frantic Assembly’s Artistic Director Scott Graham, known for his work on Metamorphosis and Othello, both of which have previously toured at the Playhouse. Jordan also wrote The Unreturning, which toured to the Everman in 2018.

Based on a true Highland story, The Croft is presented by Original Theatre, the company whose previous production of Birdsong, also directed by Alastair Whatley, sold out at the Playhouse. The Croft, starring Liza Goddard, most recently seen in Noises Off and known for her roles in Doctor Who and Bergerac, alongside Caroline Harker (A Touch of Frost), is set to thrill audiences in Liverpool from Tuesday 1 to Saturday 5 July.

Phoenix Dance Theatre presents Inside Giovanni’s Room on Thursday 5 June, a full-length dance piece inspired by James Baldwin’s iconic novel. Marking Baldwin’s 100th birthday, choreographer Marcus Jarrell Willis unpacks this thought-provoking story through narrative dance. The dance company previously toured the Playhouse with Mixed Programme in 2015 and the Everyman with well-received production BELONGING: Loss. Legacy. Love in 2024.

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Jasmin Vardimon Company, NOW is the latest creation by award-winning choreographer Jasmin Vardimon MBE and marks the company’s first visit to the Playhouse. Blending past and present, it revisits favourite moments from the company’s repertoire while reflecting on the passage of time. Performances take place on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 May

Families can look forward to The Gruffalo’s Child from Tuesday 28 October to Saturday 1 November for half-term. Adapted from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s award-winning picture book, this enchanting Tall Stories’ production follows the Gruffalo’s Child on her adventurous journey. And due to huge demand, John Shuttleworth: Raise the Oof is back on Thursday 13 November for another night of comedy.
