New Spotlight programme aims to give business skills to aspiring performers in Liverpool
1 year ago
A programme designed to help aspiring performing arts entrepreneurs has been hailed a huge success after it was showcased in Liverpool.
Spotlight on You is the first initiative of its kind in the city region and aims to give young performers in Liverpool an insight into how to turn their talent into a professional career. Â
The programme provides access to specialist training and practical experience from established professionals in a range of disciplines around working and running a business in the performing arts sector. Participants were required to apply to the programme and 19 performers were chosen from a large volume of applications.
It has been devised by dance entrepreneur Miguel Doforo and supported by Business & IP Centre Liverpool City Region. The first group of participants came together in Liverpool this week to present a showcase event held at Merseyside Youth Association on Hanover Street.Â
Geraldine Fuller of BIPC Liverpool City Region said:
“This programme is designed to help performers learn how to make money out of their talent. We want to give young people an understanding of what being in business is all about – how to protect their ideas and develop their skills and talents commercially. Â
“Miguel is a successful, internationally-renowned show business figure who genuinely cares about helping young people develop their talent. He has delivered an exciting, transformative programme with passion and unstoppable commitment.
“All of the course participants have benefitted from receiving a unique package of coaching, inspiration, confidence-building and a whole raft of other skills. We are so pleased to have supported an initiative that is potentially life-changing and may well help create the impresarios, record company bosses and agents of tomorrow.” Â
